Josh Gattis comments

In a text to some Michigan players, Josh Gattis said, “Unfortunately the past few weeks has told a different story to me about the very little appreciation I have here from administration. In life I would never advise anyone to be where they are not wanted…”

Someone should ask why he was pulled off the recruiting trail during the season.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
Exactly. I don’t want to be a person who helps spread rumors. But unfortunately the rumors are true and Gattis was never going to be promoted to HC because Michigan wasn’t even letting him recruit. If someone’s conduct causing them to not even be able to be on the recruiting trail, how are they going to be HC or leaders or men? The simple answer is they are not.
This is best for everyone involved that he goes somewhere and proves himself. It’s unfortunate that this is what he texted players. And also now that he’s come to a contract with Miami, he’s not supposed to be in contact with Michigans players trying to convince them to leave. Which unfortunately I think he will do and again that speaks to his character. No way he was ever going to be HC at Michigan.

This is the spin everyone is going with?
February 6th, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
People saying Gattis wasn't a good coordinator is just insane and revisionist. We lost a great OC, it sucks, you don't have to make it seem like it doesn't.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:07 PM ^
I think he called a great game against OSU, I'll give him that. But over his three years he put up plenty of clunkers, too. I think we will be OK.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:22 PM ^
Gattis' breakthrough came when he evolved from his "speed in space" to Harbaugh's "physicality, the precision and smart". If he goes back to "speed in space", at Miami, he can expect results that are similar 2019-20.
Expect Joe MIlton, a south FloridA area native to transfer to Miami.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:59 PM ^
So Miami will almost lose to Army in regulation, then go to double overtime, and have a RB have 33 speed in space carries for 100 yards?
February 6th, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
Army planned for that game well over a year in addition to always prepping for Navy. They left it all in Ann Arbor that Saturday and their season went off the rails after that.
February 6th, 2022 at 6:03 PM ^
Let’s not pretend here like Harbaugh wasn’t limiting Gattis until this year. It has also been apparent for a long time that Harbaugh isn’t for everyone, players and coaches.
February 6th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
Let's not pretend that we have inside knowledge when we don't...
February 6th, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
Agreed
February 7th, 2022 at 9:13 AM ^
He was a first time OC, he got better over the years. He literally won the Broyles award this year. If you think the Broyles award winning OC is terrible than I don't know what to say to you.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
People acting like the entire board didn’t want him fired before this season is also revisionist history. I wanted him to stay for continuity on the coaching staff, but something tells me we will be ok
February 6th, 2022 at 1:09 PM ^
He wasn’t good until Weiss arrived, and we started running 60-70 percent of what the Ravens run. Sometimes believe your eyes.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:49 PM ^
He as a FANTASTIC self promoter.
He was below average first two season with his speed in space hype, then last season JH brought in two new guys and forced Gaddis to change back to more of a JH style offense.
He won the Broyles award and wanted an extension and more loot but the admin said NO and he got his feelings hurt and now is acting like a clown, not a good look.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
Im with you, regardless if he was treated poorly, disrespected, etc. his actions of the last 24 hours don't look good for him.
I am grateful for his part in this last season. We will never know how much freedom he had in calling games the first couple years he was here to make a foundational judgement on his abilities. Wishing him well in Miami.
February 6th, 2022 at 5:05 PM ^
This. And I’m not sure admin wouldn’t have given him more money. The AD would’ve never restructured Gattis contract without knowing where JH was going to end up first. Now if he’s mad because he got word he wasn’t going to get the HC job had JH left then go ahead and be butthurt. I can’t fault the AD for that either, if true. Expecting to get the keys to the winningest program in history without ever being a head coach is not something I feel you could really be surprised or hurt about. Best of luck, we’ll be fine.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:47 PM ^
That's not a spin, it's a legitimate question. Why was the Broyles award winner taken off recruiting? Why did Moore have little contact with the guy that was gonna be his OC? It's not a spin it's a puzzle that needs putting together.
February 6th, 2022 at 5:11 PM ^
It’s true. And the easiest way to solve an hr problem is to make it someone else’s.
im quite surprised he made the comment he did. This could easily blow up in his face.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:15 PM ^
Water finds its level. Let's see where Gattis is in 5 - 10 years. If he is as good a coach as some believe , he will be a successful head coach somewhere.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:31 PM ^
I'll be willing to bet a large sum of money that he won't ever be a HC and will be mediocre at Miami.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:56 PM ^
I won't take that bet.
February 6th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
That’s true. His recruiting tactics will be much more accepted in Miami lmao. Bye!
February 6th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
As a Broyles winner, odds are that he'll get a HC job. Also, the Harbaugh coaching tree is well-respected.
Whether he'll succeed, no idea.
February 6th, 2022 at 7:05 PM ^
You don't produce, you don't get the job. So I dont believe the, "you're from the tree", award winner, notion that it'll automatically qualify him for a HC role. I think we see 19-20 Gattis from here in out.
February 6th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
Being mediocre as a football coach is not disqualifying from being a head coach. Plenty of examples to the contrary.
February 6th, 2022 at 5:08 PM ^
I agree he could have a short lived and mediocre tenure at Miami. I think he has a large enough resume though that someone will give him a HC gig. Maybe not Power 5, but certainly a team will give him a shot. The college HC carousel will continue.
February 6th, 2022 at 8:04 PM ^
You might want to be careful with that bet The ACC isn’t exactly loaded with good teams, especially with Clemson looking like they could spiral down. Also the state of Florida is loaded with talent. Gattis could easily ride Cristobal’s coat tail and find himself a HC job in the next 3-5 years. I’m not saying it will happen, but it certainly could.
February 6th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
Cristobal's head-coaching record isn't particularly impressive. Did you happen to watch his team get throttled twice by Utah this year? Miami is currently a coaching graveyard.
February 6th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
What you "think" someone is going to do doesnt speak to anyone's character because its total conjecture.
February 6th, 2022 at 4:38 PM ^
Goodness... I know of the rumor you're referring to....we have another Les Miles here who thinks with wrong brain....... like in the Gladiator film... "you, will not be emperor". He sandbagged himself .....
February 6th, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
I must have totally missed this, but when was he pulled off the recruiting trail? Do we have any more background on when, how, and why that decision was made?
February 6th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
Yeah the “rumor” is he was getting close with recruits moms. So take that with a huge grain of salt
February 6th, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
Would you want to go to a school where the OC banged your mom?
February 6th, 2022 at 1:11 PM ^
Did he take out to a nice steak dinner and never called her again ?
February 6th, 2022 at 1:23 PM ^
Dorothy Mantooth is a saint!
February 6th, 2022 at 1:46 PM ^
I think it was seafood, but yes.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
I see what you did there. Ahem.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:18 PM ^
I'd rather my mom banging a millionaire coach than a random gut at GM.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
The things parents do for their kids.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:49 PM ^
I'd do anything for my kid but I won't do that.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
That should have been a Meatloaf song
February 6th, 2022 at 2:13 PM ^
It could be the Weird Al Yankovic version. All the lyrics revolve around helicopter parenting.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:49 PM ^
It may have been “that.” It was never explicitly defined.
February 6th, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
And now we will never know, RIP.
February 6th, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
Forest Gump's mom took one for the team, just so her kid could go to public school. So who knows what moms will do nowadays....
February 6th, 2022 at 11:55 PM ^
Well Mrs. Worthy, is there a Mr. Worthy?
February 6th, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
Mrs Gump approves
February 6th, 2022 at 3:12 PM ^
You're supposed to sleepover with the recruits, Josh.
February 6th, 2022 at 6:55 PM ^
And play for my new dad? Hell, yeah!!
