He’s likely starting the year as the kick returner and a 2nd string WR. The other WRs on the roster are reportedly pretty banged up already, so it’s doubtful that Shanahan is cutting any functioning pass catcher.

The problem he has to overcome is that he’s missed two catches…and both of those misses ended up being interceptions.

Micah Kaapana also had a huge game. 12 carries for 233 yards and 3 TDs for Bishop Gorman. His stats continue to be almost unbelievable how big of a big play threat he is for a big time program

If I remember the Hello write-up correctly, this guy isn’t ranked higher because Bishop Gorman is a very pass-heavy offense that doesn’t run the ball very often, so he doesn’t have the eye popping stats that’d he’d otherwise have if they emphasized the run.

Sounds like he should be a good one here!

He was a backup, and Bishop Gorman didn't play a very intensive schedule, so evaluators were forced to judge him based on only a few competitive snaps. He did just about all you could ask in those snaps, but people wanted to see more. Seems like he's off to a good start so far as their opponent from last Friday, Corner Canyon, is highly regarded with several D1 prospects.

From his highlights against Corner Canyon, it’s clear he’s insanely dynamic but it didn’t exactly alleviate the concerns I had before. Most of his runs are wide open outside runs or his inside runs are basically uncontested and he just runs past guys. Is he just that dynamic where all his runs look like that? I’d still love to see more between the tackles type runs where he start-stops, reads blocks, break tackles, etc.

Your description (which I agree with) sounds a lot like Brian's scout of Michael Shaw from back in the day:

I am not a scout, but in the Shaw video at Scouting Ohio I saw a guy with a knack for catching the flare, good speed, and exactly one move: an upfield cut followed by a bounce-out that got him outside high school defenders with regularity. He's clearly fast, sets up his blocks pretty well, and has that glide cut down -- thus the comparison to Antonio Pittman above. But virtually no Shaw runs were between the tackles. Tough yards after contact were few and far between.

There is a very good 20+ minute you tube clip of the Bishop Gorman vs Corner Canyon game. Very high-level HS talent. Kapana is #22-bad white jerseys...can hardly see the numbers.
