Jon Jansen Replacing Jamie on 97.1 Morning Show

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on October 2nd, 2020 at 11:05 AM

Really happy to hear this. I love listening to Jansen, and he'll be a fitting replacement for the late Jamie Samuelson. I hope he parks in Mike Valenti's spot every day. LINK.

Damn I didn't know Jamie passed away. I was a big listener of 97.1 in the glory days before it became the Valenti shit show. I guess he and Killer will be reunited to discuss sports for eternity.

Just finished watching Patriot on Amazon. They had a running joke about parking in someone elese reserved parking space. I'm sure Valenti has one. And I'm sure he'd be just as much a jerk about it as the guy in Patriot.

Always enjoyed listening to Jon Jansen when he filled in on Karsch and Anderson.  Great to hear he will be a permanent fixture on the morning show!  One great guy replacing another.....

However, that time slot, too damn early for me and COVID has further corrupted my ability to wake up early.  JJ must be a morning person to agree to that gig.

I'm probably gonna get begged for this but what is the broad's opinion on the Huge show?

I listen to it quite sometimes.

I liken Huge to a drunken bombastic parrot. He fails to offer anything close to a unique opinion, relying on repeating a person's statement or view and adding his own unique 'flavor' to it...and by 'flavor', I mean a**. He has a few lucid moments that show he is actually human, but otherwise he is not worthy of my listening time. GR sports radio has sucked for a decade, which is why I listen to podcasts for sports info.

I can't wait to hear the Monday after Halloween when the master of deflection Mike Valenti either A. doesn't show up to work or B. talks the Lions loss to the Colts the entire show.

Also, great addition by 97.1 bringing on MSU pressbox cheerleader Rico Beard as his counterpart. Makes for insightful debate.

This is fantastic! I've been listening on the Radio.com app as I live out of state. He balances out Stoney and his horrible broadcasting skills.

Those are some big shoes to fill but I will give him a chance.  I like what I've heard from Jansen on the podcasts and Michigan shows.  I love the thought of him parking in Valenti's parking spot, what is that toad going to say?

I have to say, I miss Jamie on the show, that was one sharp cat and I actually cared about NW because of Jamie.  In his honor I'm getting my plumbing checked, I don't think I'm the only listener that is taking his fight with cancer as a warning.

Jansen is pretty good at this. Does a great job getting players/coaches comfortable and gets more out of them than you see in other interviews as a result.

Great for Jon! He's really made himself a career in the industry. A good enough ending to a tragic, sad story, I loved Jamie and his Northwestern fandom, a fanbase the blog appreciates immensely

I remember watching him clean up a Gus Macker court back in the day (he was still at U of M).  They tossed it to him in the post, and he would just swing that big leg over and make layup after layup with guys bouncing off of him, then he would just kick it back out to his brother (who played college bball) who would dominate as well.  It was funny watching the opponents try to strategize against that.
