Jim Delany on Tressel's resignation

Submitted by BoBo24 on
Since Ohio State discovered and received information indicating possible violations in its football program in December 2010, it has consistently reported the information in a timely and collaborative way to the NCAA. The Big Ten Conference regards this approach as fundamental and necessary and has confidence that Ohio State will continue in this manner with regard to any newly discovered or reported information.

Coach Jim Tressel has made positive contributions to Ohio State and its student athletes during his tenure. He has also acknowledged making a serious mistake and his resignation today is an indication that serious mistakes have serious consequences.

Ohio State is scheduled to appear before the NCAA in August 2011 to adjudicate these matters.

Once Delaney brought up paying players to try to keep the focus off of TSIO then I pretty much lost all respect for his opinion on things....

Whether or not the NCAA will revisit the decision to allow Pryor et al. to participate in the Sugar Bowl in light of all that has come out since.

Will the insidious influence of money in collegiate athletics ever become subject to examination?

This crater left behind in Columbus only exacerbates the problem (or at least brings it more to the undeniable surface).

Than in Chris Spielman's reaction. That man exudes class in everything he says and does. I can excuse him saying that he believes Tressel was a fundamentally "good guy" (prior to the SI article -- wonder what he thinks now?). After all, he's a dyed-in-the-wool Buckeye, and it comes with the territory.

I listened to the ESPN interview with him. He's obviously struggling with the whole affair. Wanting, on the one hand, to believe there is a logical explanation for the actions of a man he admires (Tressel) while at the same time acknowledging that Ohio State is bigger than football and bigger than Tressel.

I don't feel bad for anyone connected to Ohio State in this. They brought this on themselves. But, if I did, I would have to say Spielman is the only person for whom I would feel some amount of distress. For the rest, it's pure schadenfreude.

You mean the same Chris Spielman that said:

"[The Wolverines] stink, they're not very good. They don't play offense ... they can't run it consistently, they can't throw it consistently, they can't stop the run, they're not very good defending the pass, they're not very good covering kicks, they're not very good returning kicks. I love seeing them beaten down, man. It's great."
F**K Chris Spielman.

Delany is a clown, and a B1G one at that.  Case in point:

"He has also acknowledged making a serious mistake and his resignation today is an indication that serious mistakes have serious consequences."

Tressel walks away clean, never to face NCAA scrutiny, never to have to face the teams and fans he cheated on the road, and never to admit to any wrong-doing.  I could care less who he thought he was protecting, or that he regrets letting Buckeye Nation down.  Bottom line -- Tressel has yet to man up and apologize for his lying and deceit.   So tell me Mr. Delany, what exactly do you believe Tressel has aknowledged?

This is what makes me so sick about this entire buckin affair.
