Jay Harris (the rapping WR) had schollie pulled by MSU a month ago

Submitted by Lionsfan on

Everyone got a good laugh this morning, when it was announced that WR Jay Harris had decided to forgo an MSU scholarship in order to focus on a rap career.

Well apparently it was a mutual parting of ways.

Jay Harris, one of the area’s top football recruits, was stripped of his scholarship by Michigan State earlier this month after he posted a series of profanity-laced rap videos on YouTube, a source said Tuesday.
Harris, a senior wide receiver, said he freely chose a rap career over football. A Michigan State spokesman said it was “a mutual decision.” “I’ve always had this in the back of my head, but never had the courage to tell my parents that this is what I want to do,” Harris said.

I don't think the whole story will ever come out, since both sides will want to save face, but I think it is a good lesson for recruits. It's important to watch what you say on Twitter/Youtube. Not only this, but there was University of Charleston dropping a guy off of his Twitter posts, and I'm sure a lot of posters here remember the Yuri Wright saga too.

Even with their propensity to cover up sexual assaults from their basketball team and make excuses for  the criminals on their football team, even Sparty can't give a scholly to a kid smoking a fatty on a tasteless rap video.  Can they?

The rap game is guilty of dirty recruiting. They were talking poorly about msu's recruiting budget, bribing players with money, girls, cars, and drugs. Also, I think they kicked a few rappers out of the game and onto vh1 reality shows to make room for new recruits. Dantonio cooled on this guy months ago anyway.

I don't think this thread was necessary or changes anything.  I would tend to believe the rapper over Dantoniio.

Yes, and every relationship that I've ever had was "a mutual decision." I swear, it's true! They didn't break up with me, it was mutual! Why won't you believe me?!?

I can see why he didn't have the courage to tell his parents.  Then, he took a couple hits and bam, courage!
