Jaron Dukes and Deveon Smith Get 3 Stars from Rivals
Jaron Dukes and Devon Smith both received 5.7 3-star rankings from Rivals. 5.7 is the highest ranking for a 3-star on Rivals. Dukes is the #43 WR and Smith is the #32 RB.
Gareon Conley and Khalid Hill are not yet ranked.
Hopefully we see all of thier rankings improve throughout their senior seasons, because as we all know, recruiting stars are everything.

Here is the first part of his scout evaluation: "He plays quarterback in high school now and does a tremendous job of leading his team. He's a tremendous leader who flat out knows how to win. He has tremendous football instincts, regardless of what position he's playing." If only he was pointing in the picture.
This thread is embarrassing.
Hooray for small sample sizes!

The stars are important, but what's more important, and where the true measure of their skill lies, is in the coaching they receive. A 3-star can turn into a stud (Mike Hart, Justin Blackmon, Sam Bradford) with the proper coaching, just like how a 5-star can turn into a flop w/o it.
I'm confident that Borges will be able to coach these kids up, regardless of what their Rivals ranking is.

The stars are fun to gaze at, but not important at all. The coaches know what they want and need to build the team. Mattison has coached more elite talent than any college team has ever assembled. If he, Gorgeous or GoldPooper recruit a high schooler, I think we can all trust that they know more about both fit and potential than the recruiting services. Recruited by RR, coached by Mattison...anyone remember Jake Ryan?

are two of my favorites on the team. Ryan seemed to turn beastly overnight. Made a big splash in last year's spring game and was a huge contributor over the season. As Brian pointed out in the UFRs, he got schooled a few times on the edge, but I'm excited that he's only a RS sophomore.

Mattison, Gorgeous and Goldpooper? Clearly Mattison needs a nickname. Get that started folks.
Hasn't Hoke, Mattison and the entire crew said repeatedly that they don't really care much about stars; and that it's the character and talent that they see that is important? 3 stars now, National Champions tomorrow. Whatever. I trust the coaches.

I just do not know how I feel about Smith. I know he is an absolute bull but in order to have a successful and nationally competitive offense we need a FAST and STRONG runningback. I know that Mike Hart was not the fastest player and he excelled but we also did not win a National Championship and that is the ultimate goal isnt it? I know this is somewhat of a far fetched comparison but I really think the focus should be speed and size if we are going to compete with the SEC on a national level. Isaac meets that criteria, which we may still get him but I am just not sold on Smith. It is a plus he is a Michigan Man but that does not translate to wins. Go Blue! EDIT: Smith is not as slow as I first thought and I embrace his committment but I guess I am just disappointed we have to choose between Isaac and Green. I trust our coaches opinion/evaluation over my own though. Either way I think he is a great addition and I love his running style and ability to break arm tackles and keep his legs moving through the tackles. If he can gain some speed he has the potential to be another great Michigan RB.
