Jalen/Bill Simmons preview the Kings and discuss Stauskas

Submitted by FabFiver5 on

Jalen and Bill Simmons have been releasing their team-by-team previews for each NBA club and the Sacramento Kings version discusses Nik Stauskas quite a bit. They both seem to agree that he'll be a good pro, but he's not necessarily on the right team at the moment.

Should be interesting to watch his development (plus Mitch + GR3's) going forward.

Stauskas? Stauskas? Stauskas?

But really, I wish he got drafted somewhere else. I think he will be good, but splitting with McLemore is going to limit him.

I'm just glad to see Simmons back from exile for speaking truth to power.  I'm a fan of Simmons - especially his writing - and it's good to see him back in the swing of things.

I don't care who you work for, you can't try to bully your employer into inaction and then whine when they do act. He was not doing that to speak "truth to power." He was doing that for personal reasons (his own legend and his own ongoing tiff with ESPN).

I'm not so sure we can conclude that was done solely for personal reasons.  One could say that calling the NFL out on its bullshit regarding domestic violence and player behavior in general is a matter of principle.  I think that he views ESPN and the NFL as inappropriately intertwined, and that the close ESPN/NFL relationship compromises ESPN's journalistic credibility.  And I laughed aloud when he said during his tirade that "Oh yeah, October is the month that the NFL pretends it cares about women."  Preach, Brother Simmons.  Preach!

That stated, I take your overall point. I certainly had a selective memory, because as I think about it Simmons did dare ESPN to lay him off.  Usually that goes poorly.  That's quite an oversight on my part - thanks for pointing it out.

who "speak truth to power" whilst ignoring the much more numerous crimes of the masses.

It's easy to damn the rich and faceless monoliths. It's much harder to admit that society is infested by crooks, scumbags, and thugs.

These huge entities are the product of the society that created them. They are a reflection of us. Until we recognize that nothing will change.

Dude, I don't know if you've noticed this, but the small-time, mostly poor crooks, scumbags, and thugs that exist in society are the ones that actually get incarcerated. That's the problem. You're right. The people in power do reflect us in this way. Crime rates among the whiter, richer men in power are the same, they just never get in trouble for any of it.
