Jake Rudock vs. Michigan -- Every Snap

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Finally got this thing done after a week or so of looking around for the Michigan-Iowa 2013 game.

Rudock was 19 for 30 with 239 yards at 8 yards per completion. He threw 2 TDs and 3 INTs. Brought Iowa back from a 21-7 halftime deficit.

Some drives are pretty funny on here. There are parts where Rudock throws once on one offensive drive for Iowa and several drives in the game where Iowa ran three times and punted because Kirk Ferentz.

So you just believe Kirk Ferentz was throwing Harbaugh a bone? You really believe the man let a QB would could help us win go to Michigan? I don't buy it one bit, I don't think he believed in the kid and knows he can't help Michigan win, why else would you allow a inter conference transfer?

I believe he started every game except one where he was injured.  He and the backup were platooned in their bowl game, though. In January, for the first time ever at that time of year, Ferentz named a starting QB--not Rudock.  The backup's father was threatening a transfer for his son (who has two years of eligibility left).  Most of the Iowa faithful see Ferentz as caving in to that threat by naming a starting QB well before Spring practice even began. Rudock said screw that and there wasn't a whole lot Ferentz could do.  He could have invited more bad PR, I suppose, by denying Rudock an opportunity to play where he wanted, but it's not like Michigan and Iowa are going to play each other this season.

My son started crying in the first five minutes due to the cold. I gave him all my hot packs and was frickin freezing! Add the 2nd half offensive suck and this game was such a horrible experience. I almost punched 2 guys on the way out-Iowa fans can be such asses(including my in law relations)!

I thought he looked OK.  Main thing was his release was a bit slow.  Too much wind up.  Here's to hoping that is worked out by the time September rolls around.

Another game Hoke completely botched.

The beginning of the end was two weeks before when after we recovered a fumbled punt by Nebraska.  We then refused to throw a fade to the endzone.

Instead we run the ball two times, throw a pass to gain practically nothing, and kick a field goal.

The end of that 2013 season was a disgrace.

Just one more game that Hoke and Co. completely shit the bed for. We were up 21-7 and completely threw the game away.

When the likes of Kirk Ferentz and Bo Pelini completely outcoach you, you know you have a problem.

I drove 10 hours and spent my 39th birthday behind the bench for this game. My view of Iowa's offense was blocked most of the time because Taylor Lewan kept going straight from the field to the stationary bike; which was placed right in front of my face- so all I got was his rear end in my face while we were on defense. It was also irritating because one of our "leaders" did not interact once with anyone when they needed him- just went straight to the bike every time.

Also, the sound guy at Kinnick Stadium needs to be shot. They play Thunderstruck before EVERY third down. Perhaps we would have learned to run some better first and second down plays other than "see Denard scramble". I promptly cracked my AC/DC Razor's Edge CD the minute I got home.

My only other memory other than complete rage was that it was so cold that all the players kept hovering around this portable heater on the ground. Kenny Allen's shoe melted because he stuck it too close to the heater vent. Couldn't tell you a thing about Rudock based on my view of Lewan's butt. That is all.

Just imagine if we had a serviceable quarterback like Ruddock the past few years, so that Denard Robinson and Devin Gardner would have been freed up to run around and catch footballs and stuff like that.

Just imagine.

Good footwork, good accuracy, solid mobility, not a cannon of an arm, and 2 years of starter experience. Compare that to Morris who has mediocre footwork in the pocket, elongated release, high velocity on short passes, cannon of an arm, surprisingly good accuracy on deep balls, and pretty good mobility.

Higher ceiling definitely belongs to Shane, but the higher floor belongs to Rudock. Should be a good competition.

Also I forgot how much of a beast JMFR was that game

I don't know what I was drinking that day or how much, but whatever it was did a good job of erasing my memory. When I first heard Rudock might transfer, my first reaction was "Who?".

I would like to challenge the thought process that he is being held back solely/mostly by Greg Davis.  I don't know - maybe he is.  Or maybe they are conservative with Rudock because they see him every day and they knew his deficiencies.  That is always a possibility too.

Like others have said thrilled to have him - if somehow Morris beats him out it would be a very good thing.  If not we have a floor at servicable.  I dont expect Harbaugh miracle because he will only have him for limited time next August - if he had been here for spring camp I would think there might be more chance for a real change in his game.  Hence someone like O'Korn by the time we get to 2016 will benefit from a lot of times Rudock wont.

But going back to point 1 often you don't want to ask too much of a game manager because he has serious limitations.  So I am not yet on the train that all his negatives are due to an OC.

He still looks leaps and bounds better than any QB we have had since Henne as far as pocket presence goes. He steps into his throws nicely and you can tell he goes through his progressions with quite a few of those plays ending up as short to mid-level check downs after he waited and waited for deeper receivers to get open.
Rudock reminds me of Henne a little even.
