Jake Long is good at football (per ESPN)
Per a poll conducted by ESPN (very scientific, they polled their bloggers), Jake Long is basically the best LT in the NFL. He and Joe Thomas split the vote, although Joe got the edge by a single point.
If only the B10 could produce NFL talent.

Side observation...it seems like a bit of a down period for LTs in the NFL right now. A lot of young guys on that list, with great potential but not a long track record. Not a lot of Munoz, Pace, Ogden types. Just goes to show how rare those guys are.

So glad that was confirmed.
(not meant to be a jab at the OP, just at ESPN)
Jake Long is what now? This is breaking news!
Edit: also not a dig at the OP.
Don't forget about Jeff Backus, the greatest left tackle of all of the Detroit Lions' left tackle starters for the past five years.
But really, it's obvious Jake Long has been awesome but it's even better to see that there hasn't been any dropoff in his game going from college to the pros like you might reasonably expect.
Backus has been the best Lions LT for the past ten years - not five! Drafted in 2001, I believe.
I think Backus gets a bum rap for his NFL career. He's not Jake Long All-Pro caliber, but he's been serviceable and steady for a long time. And he remains one of my favorite UM offensive lineman for the health scare he endured and bounced back from as a young Wolverine (I forget the details, but I think he had surgery for a burst appendix -or something similar - and was in rough shape for awhile). That being said, I wish upon a thousand stars that the Lions had draft picks swapped with Seattle the year Backus was drafted. I would've loved me some Hutchinson at OG for the past decade! And I would definitely love Jake Long at LT when his Miami contract expires....wishful thinking.
The Big Ten coaches and media thought Jake was better than Joe Thomas, at least in college.
With analysis like this, I can see why they are the Worldwide Leader . . .
