Jake Long and Seatrel Henderson

Submitted by foreverbluemaize on
Out of curiousity does anyone out there have any thoughts on whether or not Long going first overall pick last year will help us to get Henderson. I know it is a different coaching staff and all but I would think that RR can still sell that pretty well. I would think it is pretty easy to sell "Long is making 57.5 million dollars right out of college."

I think that helps, although I'm sure well-studied recruits will know that Long was before Rodriguez's time. For example, USC has a tradition of producing great running backs that spans several coaching changes. Michigan produced great receivers from Bo to Moeller to Carr. Some traditions are attached to the school as much as they are the coaches.

Michigan isn't the only school that can say that. I don't think it hurts our chances by any means, I was just pointing out that we aren't unique in the fact of having a highly (top 5) drafted OL. In the last 12???(Pace was 97 I believe)years OSU, PSU, Iowa, UM, and UW have all had top 5 OL draft picks. That list was just off the top of my head, and limited to the Big 10, btw. Not trying to discredit the OP, and I wish it was a more rare occurance, but it isn't as big a selling point as some may think.

But it is a pretty unique club. I mean, most people think he'll be a Domer, but Notre Dame can't claim that. (I don't know when their last first round OL was.) Minnesota can't claim that anytime recently. North Carolina and UCLA can't make similar claims, either. (Those are all teams on his list of offers, not just random teams.)

..Notre Dame's last really high OL draft pick, according to my quick research, was Ryan Harris, with the 70th overall pick. Harris went to Cretin-Derham, just like Henderson. Minnesota - it could have been Leo Nommelini in 1950. UCLA - Jonathan Ogden? Your point is well-taken.

...will be the current players on the Michigan team and whether Seantrel gets along with them, the team's 2009 record as opposed to 2008, and Seantrel's ability to be starting in 2011.

there are many reasons why kids choose a school. Certainly an ability to get a kid prepared for the next level is one of them. But there are many other factors involved. Winning program, depth chart, personal chemistry with future teammates and coaches, strength and conditioning program, academic programs and support available, distance from home, tradition, the feel of the campus, bitches, parents' desires, hs coaches' desires etc. My suggestion is that you look at what each kid is saying that he likes about each school to get a better guage at what is factoring into his decision and what our chances are. I am actually very pleased that we are still in the game with this monster, although he is not likely to end up here. Frey is a good coach and we did a good job pulling Washingtona and Lewan last year so I will never say never. It seems like we have a shot.

in this years draft could be the OT from Baylor which runs a spread so the negative recruiting of Oline for the spread should stop.

Thanks for the feedback, I hope we can get this kid. I watched him on you tube and I think what got me to wondering about this was the way he reminded me of Long. Can't wait to see where he goes.
