It’s time to stop scheduling MSU

Submitted by Communist Football on October 30th, 2022 at 2:14 PM

This “rivalry” is all downside and no upside. MSU routinely tries to deliberately injure our players. When the schedule changes in 2024, likely to a 3-6-6 format, keep OSU as a permanent rival, but let’s have Minnesota and UCLA or USC (or Rutgers!) as our other two.

We’ll still play MSU 50% of the time. That’s enough.

Or you could build a separate tunnel for the visiting team. This is 3 incidents the last 2 seasons. Seems like Harbaugh encourages this type of behavior.

Ending one of the best annual football games in the B1G is just silly.

This isn't three incidents. It's two jawing matches and an assault. It's one incident.

Anyway, what "best game" is this? Does any Michigan fan look forward to this? Does anyone actually enjoy winning it? It's just a chore to get through, a relief to get past it. Would any Michigan fan be sad not to play these assholes anymore?

MSU doesn't deserve the legitimacy Michigan lends them by continuing this series. They never did.

There is always a cloud of anxiety the week of this game, it’s literally the only matchup I as a fan don’t look forward to, no matter how bad MSU is, or how good they are. It’s like having to endure a nauseating Thanksgiving dinner with your toxic siblings or something. Just let them go be assholes on their own for a few years, then maybe a few years later their can be a civil game where people really don’t care about anything other than the play on the field. Then just win or lose as a player or fan, like a mature man would; with divinity, shaking the opponents hand at the end regardless of outcome.

Precisely explain how Harbaugh encourages this? And how long has the tunnel been like that, never been a problem before. The PSU thing was not even on the same level whatsoever, UM and PSU players went down the tunnel at the end of the game with no further incident and even were photographed friendly chatting with each other. The problem lies with MSU, as evidence by no other instances of what amounts to assault occuring in the tunnel over the years.

Penn State were some players swearing and using middle fingers. Rumors of sandwiches thrown.

There is a postgame video of UofM and PSU players walking up the tunnel together all relaxed.

It really wasn't a big deal.

Franklin was complaining that the halftime altercation made him lose a minute or two of halftime prep, which means we also lost the same amount of time.  Wow.  End of times stuff.

This in no way compares to Sparty jumping heavily outnumbered players and swinging helmets at players without helmets.

Do you have any idea what would be involved in trying to build a new tunnel into an existing, mostly underground stadium?

You don't just start digging holes into the side of hundred-year-old buildings where 110,000 people sit.  (Also, you're asking them to give up how many seats?  100, at a minimum).

M's historical conference rivals are Ohio State, Minnesota and Chicago. I don't think Chicago will ever consider returning to D1, but then I never thought Calvin would take up football so who knows? It'd be a nice excuse for a land grab by the U of C admin....

MSU is morally bankrupt.

We literally get nothing out of playing them. We risk our players being assaulted, we win and it is a relief, and if we lose its devastation.

It simply isn't worth it looking at the risk reward.

Remember when they had two ice hockey players (Conboy and Tropp) assault one of our players named Kampfer?  MSU fans were excusing that violent attack. A classless Spartan I know was trying to bring up that the UM player in a past year got into a fight with a UM wrestler as some sort of a self-righteous justification for the violent assault that got both MSU players suspended for the season.

We don't need MSU. They need us.

We are their existence.

I agree. I say them throw them out of the BiG10 and send them back to the 50s. They have the perfect amount of delusion to be an independent program. They could finally emerse themselves fully in the Dantonio galactic recruiting strategy.

RCMB: "Hahaha Suck it scUM, MSU's TV rights will be worth a billion a year all on their own!"

RCMB, six long months later: "What do you mean, streaming only?  What's Pluto TV?  What do you mean, they're only paying us $800,000?  That's per minute, right?  Per game...?  Per season....? Over the entire ten-year contract?!"
