It's time for Clemson to do what they do best.. Clemsoning

I know people are tired of playoff talk, but regardless of your opinion, we need Clemson to lose tonight. Why? Besides the obvious, "we could still get in the playoffs" angle, Clemson losing would guarantee us a matchup with USC in the Rose bowl at the worst. That assumes the committee takes the B1G champ over us for the playoffs, but I have little doubt the Rose bowl would take us over the loser of the B1G championship game. I think most Michigan fans would covet a matchup against USC, much more so than an Orange bowl appearance against FSU. So without further ado, it's time for Clemson to revert to their old ways and do what they do best, Clemsoning. Go Hokies.

Not sure I want to play USC right now. The Rose Bowl would be great, but playing a team that hot in what is basically a road game with nothing to really win is not a great scenario imo.

If we don't go to the playoff, I'd rather beat down on a team not playing as well as anybody besides Bama right now.

We would have to truly be rooting for Clemson. Its like saying if we believed hard enough we could use the force. We will never know if we can since we can never actually believe it.

I'd rather have us playing Bama in the playoffs to show recruits that we are already on that level. Helps a lot to be on the same level as the teams you compete for recruits with.

As for the game, I think we are the only team with a legit shot of beating Bama. Not to say that we'd expect to win, but I think our defense and special teams gives us the best shot of anyone out there.

It's nice and all that our defense can potentially stop Bama on offense, but no one is mentioning the fact that Bama's defense would absolutely curbstomp Michigan's Oline.

Speight might as well schedule an appointment for his AC joint. Our Oline crumbles against good competition. The game could easily be a shut out with our defense wearing down by the 4th since the offense just gets demolished.

Come on, man.  Michigan won't roll over and die.  I think we'd give Alabama a decent game.  I think we'd probably lose but at least it's a measuring stick for the program.  We should be aspiring to play the best teams out there.

F all this.  I want Michigan to play the best team out there and that would be in the CFP likely against Alabama if Clemson loses tonight.  If we lose, so be it.  At least we'll know where we stand against the elite.

I don't get why people think we're going to be jumped by PSU or Wisconsin if Clemson loses.  Sure, the Colorado win looks 5% less awesome now.  Who cares?  We still beat both PSU and Wisconsin, and would have the same number of losses as the winner.  I think we're very likely in if Clemson loses.

has just been a subtle shift in popular opinion against that outcome though. If it is M v. PSU, they would have to rely very very heavily on the head to head, and the fact that Penn will always be super gross now.

The bottom line is this: if Clemson loses, there will be 2 big ten teams. If you are the committee, is there any question that those 2 should be OSU an Michigan?

The committee won't have much say at all over where Michigan goes.  Remember that the Rose Bowl must take the Big Ten champion (if available), and if not the Rose Bowl itself--not the committee--gets to decide which Big Ten team to select.

And if Michigan falls past the Rose Bowl, the Orange Bowl's instructions are to take the "highest ranked available non-champion of the Big Ten or the SEC, or Notre Dame."  Michigan will obviously be higher ranked than the BTCG loser, so there is no way they fall past the Orange Bowl.

A Rose Bowl win over USC would put a lot of momentum in the program if we come up short in respect to the playoffs. I think we would destroy FSU in the Orange Bowl and I also think OSU would get killed by Bama's DL if they matched up without big ten refs to bail them out.
