interesting article on Tate

Submitted by foreverbluemaize on
Freep has a link to Tate's website. I went to check it out and there are some good pics of him with family and RR and other coaches. One thing to look into is an article titled "All eyes on Tate" or something like that. click on the M football link in there and then you can access it from there.

Mr. McBlue and…

"don't push it...get the athletes the ball and let them do the work; that's their job" What a great quote. I definitely am on board with those who think this guy is far more mature than other "super recruits" in the country (i.e. that RB from down in FL who is still deciding where to go). I think ST knew it was a matter of time before Tate took over and even though I am wary, I am happy to say we have him in the fold. I think Denard will give him a run for his money, though, simply because Denard can run with the ball. Worst case I see is a Tebow/Leak situation developing...would that be bad? Oh, did anyone else notice on that site that RR could not contain his smile when he was with Tate?

agreed. with the exception of one thing. The Leak and Tebow thing only worked because of a stellar O-line. everybody knew that when Tebow came in it was going to be a QB run. Defenses geared up for it, but were not able to stop them because the O-line made big holes for him. We will have an improved O-line this year but not that good. The team needs to have one QB in the starting spot so they know what to expect. Perhaps we will see some plays where D Rob comes in and tries some things but I think if he doesn't start the game he won't finish it either (barring any injuries of course).

Worst case I see is a Tebow/Leak situation developing WORST case? The worst possible thing that could occur here is a mirror image of a QB tandem that won a NC? Who between them had a passer efficiency of 150?

was that the team is not that bad, they just need a qb who can run the system and I can do that, or something to that effect. This kid will do better than Threet or Sheridan did last year, and that alone will make us better (that is not to say that Threet would not have been better than Threet version 1.0) but our qb play, true freshman aside will be better than last year.

Re: foreverblue . . . As hopeful as I am that both Tate and Denard will be successful at Michigan, I think it's just a little too optimistic to expect a worst case scenario of Leak/Tebow. That tandem won a national championship and you're just setting yourself up for disappointment if you really believe that's a worst case scenario

perhaps I chose my words incorrectly (not sure where I did) but I am in no way setting myself up thinking we will have a Leak Tebow tandem. In other posts I have said that it would take some good bounces and calls from the refs to get to 9 wins I think more like 7 or 8 but we will have to see. I think what I was trying to say was that it takes away fom a teams rhythm when you take one QB out and put another one in. D Rob will be the better runner so I guess the comparison (bit of a stretch) could be made to Tebow but to clarify what I said was that UF had an O-line that was stellar that year and even though they knew Tebow was going to run they did not stop him anyway. I said that we will not have an O-line that will allow us to do what they did that year. I think that we may see D-Rob come in on a trick play or 2 to keep the D guessing but as a whole I think the QB that starts will be the one that finishes (bbarring injuries). I thought that was what I said. Sorry if I did not communicate that more clearly.

That, if neither takes the starting job outright, we can always resort to a system where each qb specializes in their best area. He wasn't comparing them to the success they had, just the way they ran the system. Its hard to find a comparison to a mediocre system like that because noone will remember them.
