Impact of Warde's Comments on Season Tickets?

Submitted by Autostocks on June 22nd, 2020 at 8:55 AM

I renewed my tickets dutifully by June 1, but I was (and still am) concerned about whether the season will be played and/or how capacity will be managed, so I chose the new instalment payment option.  Now Warde is saying that the stadium will not be filled to capacity.  So what is the impact on season ticket holders?  Would be nice to know before they hit my credit card again on June 30.  Sent a note to the Ticket Office today asking the question, and will see what they have to say.  Has anyone else asked this question since Warde's statement last week?

FWIW, the last communication i got from the ticket office is that they will let us know if/when we need to actually pay for renewals with plenty of time to do so.  the only deadline i saw come and go was the bit about upgrading tickets.

my guess is that no season ticket holder will lose their spot if they don't renew this year as there is no way they are going to seat us all and they don't want to lose any of us.  as has been discussed here at length, there is a real chance that sports attendance is permanently reduced once it resumes.  they aren't going to be pushing any of us out of the boat.

Thanks.  If there was relief on the June 1 date, I must have missed it (entirely possible).  Anyway, too late now for the first instalment.  Maybe they will reduce attendance on some sort of voluntary basis.  If that's the case, I will attend if allowed to.

Agree. Pasted below is what I think is the relevant section of the email from the Athletic Department on 5/29. I haven't paid anything yet and took this to mean I didn't have to and they would give us plenty of time to pay when there's an actual plan.

"With the many variables that remain out of our control, the June 1 season ticket renewal deadline is being extended indefinitely until we have further direction on the season. There are several entities that will determine the details of the season, including the Big Ten Conference, campus leadership, medical experts, and state/local government officials. As soon as a decision has been made we will communicate that information. We will not be releasing any unpaid season tickets until we have details on the 2020 football season. If a decision is made for the 2020 season to continue in a normal manner, and your account has a balance, we will provide you with ample notification to pay your balance before releasing your tickets."

We renewed our 6 tickets and added 2 more to max out at the 8 allowed per ticket order. We did this about a week and a half ago, when the upgrades were being conducted.  We'd been looking to add 2 seats for a few years now but each of those years adding additional seats has not been an option. The additional 2 seats are just a couple seats down the same row as our original 4 seats we've held since 1980, plus 2 more seats in the next row in front of us that we've held now for about a dozen years.

Our thinking is that it's a low-risk upgrade and a low-risk investment, as everything we've read indicates being able to roll the payment over to next season if necessary AND likely the best opportunity to scoop up 2 more seats, an opportunity very very unlikely in 2021 with a much more attractive home schedule and pent-up demand likely in 2021.

The party directly in front of us (our buddy Dave) has held his seats since 88 when he graduated from U of M; Dave started with 2, added 2 several seasons ago, and also added 2 more during the recent upgrade, giving him 6; his son (a 4th-generation Michigan grad as of 2019) started up his own 2-seat order directly in front of his dad last season.  All told, we now, as a bunch of Michigan tailgating buddies, hold a block of 16 seats in 4 rows.

Our aim:  SECTION 36 DOMINATION

I never got the email that June 1st was extended out indefinitely and was rather annoyed by it since everyone on here was saying they got one. I don't feel that I will get to go to a game. My priority point total probably is too low even though I have had season tickets for 20 years. My guess is parents, students, alumni, and faculty will get first dibs. So figuring this is going to happen I used my money saved for season tickets to buy a puppy!! We get her Friday and Annie for Ann Arbor will be welcomed to our Michigan family.

I think Warde knows best. I'm sure he's following health experts etc. He knows that young men who possibly get the virus will be just fine. Glad he is not being soft about the issue.

I saw that the Patriots are giving season ticket holders the option to skip this year without penalty. Seems like most teams/stadiums should provide the same courtesy the way things seem to be headed, especially considering many may not want to take the risk even if their seats are available to them.

Unofficial word from inside was 15k capacity. I think because things change so quick they are reluctant to announce anything before they have to.

I paid for mine by the original due date in Spring. I'm personally fine either way; season, limited or no season. It sounds like season ticket holders will have multiple options; one of which will be to just transfer the funds to next season.

I could also see if it's limited, that tickets will go out based on priority points or maybe even rotate by priority points. Like, this year you might just get one game of your choosing and first choices go by priority points. And then when it hits you, you can choose between what's left.

I would assume if season ticket holders do t all get in, they’ll be offered either a refund or they can move their payment to the next season.
