"Hurry Up" Jim Harbaugh
The last head football coach at Michigan, who came from Stanford via San Jose was Fielding H. YOST. He stayed long enough to be a Champion, a Football Legend, and have a building named after him. His innovations (the spiraling forward pass, etc.) changed the game forever.
What would it take for Jim Harbaugh to be great?
December 26th, 2014 at 4:11 PM ^
A national title
December 26th, 2014 at 4:11 PM ^
do what Bo never did and win a National Championship
December 26th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
He won two.
If Michigan was in the SEC, it would make sense to claim them. 1973 and 1985.
December 26th, 2014 at 4:18 PM ^
Oh come on.
December 26th, 2014 at 4:33 PM ^
Look it up.
If Michigan wanted to, they could claim 5 more mythical national titles since they were named national champions by selectors in the years 1925, 1926, 1964, 1973 and 1985.
December 26th, 2014 at 4:52 PM ^
How do two unclaimed mythical titles equal two real titles?
December 26th, 2014 at 5:03 PM ^
Yawn. No.
December 26th, 2014 at 5:38 PM ^
stop. Bo never won a NC don't be "that fan" and try and change history.
December 27th, 2014 at 12:11 PM ^
This is such a Sparty type of argument. Don't stoop down to their level.

The comma in your headline really changes the meaning of what you're trying to say.
December 26th, 2014 at 7:19 PM ^
Putting Yost's nickname "Hurry Up!" In quotations would have been clearer, but I thought most MGoBloggers would get the reference. My parents told stories about "Hurry Up," and his "Point-a-Minute" teams, and I liked the thought that Harbaugh could be that great. It's a different era, obviously, so I was curious what people would consider to be equivalent success.
December 26th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
Simply accept the job and be who he is. Everything else would follow accordingly.
December 26th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
national titles and ownage of Urban Meyer
December 26th, 2014 at 4:56 PM ^
And Dantonio
December 26th, 2014 at 7:38 PM ^
Especially if several of his assistants and players become Hall-of-Famers. Yost's teams won six National Titles, but there's more competition now. And (as you obviously know) he totally owned Ohio State. Five members of his coaching tree and nine players are in the Hall of Fame.

MOARRRR Harbaugh threads !!!!!!
December 26th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
This is just at a boiling point
December 26th, 2014 at 4:18 PM ^
Everyone needs to relax and enjoy the holidays until then. We've known for 2 weeks that he's going to coach the last game.
Everyone rushing it is just silly, like hoping Christmas comes on the 21st.
I've said it over and over, Sunday night to Tuesday night is our window. 28th to 30th.
At that time, delirium officially begins, but until then, we all just have to wait. Hope he gets a win and get a solid postgame speech. Hopefully one that includes a goodbye and a Go Blue.
December 26th, 2014 at 6:05 PM ^
Read the post, Yost.
Not just the thread title.
December 27th, 2014 at 12:58 AM ^
It's too much to expect a coach to have Yost-level success now. But what do you think should be the standard for a great Michigan coach in the modern era? Multiple National Championships? Dominating rivals to win Big Ten Championships? Developing Hall of Fame players and coaches? Something else?
December 27th, 2014 at 6:32 AM ^
Winning record over rivals...
Winning record in bowl games...
A national championship...
Always playing for conference championship...
10+ wins...
No embarrassing losses (like losing to a FCS or a MAC school...not a blowout loss type embarrassing)...
Solid recruiting and a top 10 presence in the NFL Draft (in terms of number of players drafted and number of players in the first round)...
Basically we should be a great to elite level team.
There are exceptions and you can have a rebuilding year, but we should be an elite program.

Wow
December 26th, 2014 at 4:27 PM ^
At this point can we just worry about the Hello Post
December 26th, 2014 at 4:27 PM ^
Stomp Sparty back into the stone age and at least break even with Ohio State.
December 26th, 2014 at 4:32 PM ^
breaking even with the buckeyes is not good enough. Sorry but need to have "at least' a winning record. Ideally, returning to the 90's but we'd all like that.
December 27th, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
I don't think we really have to worry about Sparty getting stomped back to mediocrity. Nardizzi saw the writing on the wall, and got out of town.
December 26th, 2014 at 4:29 PM ^

Because you can't rush what you can't control.
Lust is deliciously exciting but sufficiently intemperate. Love lasts, sometimes a lifetime. Good things can always wait, because they are always better appreciated in the afterglow of the longview.
