Holiday Friday What's In Your Cup/On Your BBQ/Plans Thread

Submitted by xtramelanin on September 4th, 2020 at 6:55 PM

Mates,

End of summer Labor Day Weekend thread.  We have slight normalcy leaking back into our lives with some college football being played this weekend and also the genuine hope that in 2 weeks we'll be watching real live high school football in various places in Michigan.  Oh the heart jumps in anticipation.

Earlier, a number of you laid out your plans for the weekend.  I have it on good authority that mgoblogger Scanner Blue will be visiting the farm tomorrow for a bike ride and run, joining the 'Daddy-daughter duathlons' that me and one or both daughters have been doing 2-3x/wk for the last 6 months or so. Trying to entice robf to join us as he hinted at a possible trip up north.  For those that visit, bring a cooler so we can send you down the road with some farm goods - beef, eggs, and maybe we'll go berry picking at the north end of the farm.

You've got CFB tomorrow starting at 1:00.  Of particular interest is a game at 1:30 where two of last year's opponents, Memphis State and Army square off.  Holding out hope for Mr. Yacht to pull a rabbit out of a hat and actually tilt us toward B10 football.

So what's in your cup, what's on your grill, what's on tap for you this holiday weekend?

Passing through Montgomery, Alabama on the way to gulf shores. Sugar free red bull for now.  Trailer in tow.  Will likely dig into some 22 year old Costco scotch after getting to our site.

Enjoy your weekend!

ribs have become a favorite around here so i do have a 8 lb set of ribs ready to roll.  probably tomorrow night.  always able to bust out some grass fed beef if needed, too. i mean, we have a literal ton in freezers and a field full of cattle if the zombies come.  so there is that.

I’m breaking in a new smoker with ribs on Monday. Seasoned it and did a practice run with pork belly Thursday to get it ready. Gonna be a lot of smoked meats this fall.

I figured it would be a good hobby to replace golf for awhile now that I have a newborn and can’t leave the house for the whole day anymore.

Will MGoUser "Dennis" (originator of the MGoCamping idea) be there?

Don't know if you noticed, but a few weeks ago during your hiatus, "Dennis" posted to a thread or two, first time I believe I've seen him on the MGoBoard in quite some time.

not hosting a camping trip, just some mgovisitors today.  you'd be welcome, but the pit might be a problem unless there was some bonafides about fairly absolute calm -  too many animals and kids around to have an unknown (to us) variable like that on the farm.

NBA playoffs, time with my girls, local beer (Founders and some of that locally brewed west coast IPA, my two homes). Hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy what they can, even though we are living through some troubled times. As we say in antitrust law, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Got a Founders All Day IPA in my hand right now as I type this from the pool, a tee time Sunday morning with the fellas, and a full slab of ribs with my special dry rub seasoning that I'll be throwing on the grill Monday. All in all. Life is good.

This weekend starts family salmon tourney.  Clackamass coho still a no-show.... heading tomorrow n Sunday for some Tillamook Chinook.  No michigan football this fall = biggest salmon season in decades!  If the Canucks ever get the border open, plan on hitting the Frazier with kids for some “remote learning”. Rainer beer for me....

First game of the season is Texans vs Chiefs on Thursday the 10th.  Sounds like a pretty good match-up to me.  It will be interesting to see how the Texans (and more importantly DeShaun Watson) fare considering Bill O'Brien traded away their top offensive weapon last season.  It's going to be all about DeShaun this year unless David Johnson can resurrect his career.

For those of you who are fans of the Lions, they play the Bears on the 13th at 1pm.  I assume the game is on FOX as most NFC games are.  I expect a win for the Lions.  I'm an optimistic Lions fan (this year) and I don't have much respect for the Bears this season.

If you're a Browns fan, and I know there are more than a few of you here, they start their season against the Ravens at the same time as the Lions.  I assume that game will be on CBS.  Another good match-up in my opinion.  Baker Mayfield admitted that he was a headcase last year and needs to focus more on football and on being a better QB.  I agree and I have a feeling he will have a bounce-back season if he has indeed changed his attitude.  If he bounces back, the Browns likely will as well.

Nothing special planned on the grill, but we're climbing Dog Mountain on Sunday. Should be a really cool outing. On Monday we'll probably crack open the Cascadia sour beer that's been sitting in the fridge for a while now.

It was no trigger,  it is just that you are a poster who is a slog to deal with.

I have disagreed with dr mantis for example, but he brings useful points that arent about his kids and still bring an athletes view.

You unfortunately are a pain to deal with.

I would rather have the good doc back than you. That is all.
