Holiday Bowl Open Thread
This one is again created early for everyone's convenience, and in the event that I am putting the kiddos to bed when the game starts. If nothing else, we need to match the hilarity of last night's Belk Bowl thread, which was a wonderful indictment of the game itself.
What everyone has been waiting for - The Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl!
So, tune in to ESPN again at 8 PM for California (7-5) versus Texas (7-5) in another battle of so-so teams that will hopefully provide everyone some great Wednesday night entertainment.
I went Texas on this one in the pool.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
Took Texas also. Expect multiple camera shots of Bevo.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
Follow the money and peace will come.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:13 PM ^
Well you would hate to be userped by Zone Left, right?
I'll take Cal. Anyone who loses in the Big 12 can just pack it in for the year.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
I take enormous pride in creating pre-BCS Bowl Week threads. :-)
Actually, it's also a distraction from the Military Bowl too. MWC survivors and the upper tier of the MAC East in a death struggle. Hooray!
December 28th, 2011 at 7:27 PM ^
I'll take this opportunity to jump in and take issue with that sentiment. I think we've been lapping up a little too much haterade on MGoBoard this bowl season. These teams are coming out full blast leading to some pretty competitive games, and I'll take the mistakes we've been seeing over Oklahoma's pompous "why the hell should we show up to play these guys" attitude. As someone who enjoys watching high school football on up (as opposed to just watching high powered programs), I think these games have been pretty entertaining.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
As much as I bitch about the quality of play, I watch anyway. I freely admit to my CFB junkie status. If I wasn't actually entertained, I wouldn't bother obviously.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
Not trying to point to you only, but I'll accept that.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
Work in the full sponsor name in the post. The learner has become the master. I feel like a proud Obi-wan seeing what his pupil Darth Vader has become...

Wait, what?
December 28th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
If LSA Class of 2000 keeps beating me to the punch, he may end up with negative eleventy-billion points. I'm not above eliminating the competition with evil mod-powers.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:03 PM ^
Make it difficult for us upstarts trying to rise to the MGoTop. :-)
December 28th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
Think about it this way. I'm the BCS and you're Boise State. Sure, you may have done everything you could possibly do to earn your shot, but I can change the rules at any time and put you right back on the bottom.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:19 PM ^
No, boise has not done everything they could. They refuse to join a real conference.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
To be fair, I think a conference needs to invite them to join. Peterson and company can't do much about that.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
Hasn't seemed to have much problem being courted.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:05 PM ^
It should be me.

And I have eleventy-billion points to spare.
December 28th, 2011 at 7:24 PM ^
It's fun to root against Texas. At least the Holiday Bowl has that going for it.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
It will be hard to beat the high scoring game that just got done, here is an idea play some damn D!
December 28th, 2011 at 8:05 PM ^
Anyone find it ironic that two of the best schools in the country are playing in a game designed to advertise for two of the crappiest schools in the country (Bridgeport runs Ashford University and University of the Rockies)?
December 28th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
The "Bitter Irony Bowl" just does not sell tickets. "The Pathos Bowl" was similarly unsucessful with the public.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:09 PM ^
Regardless, this game has several things the Belk Bowl didn't have, like major conference teams and a locale worth visiting.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
We're going to hear Cal fans are pissed that Texas campaigned and took their Rose Bowl berth?

Hell, don't know what they're mad about; it's us who got screwed. We would have killed Cal.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
The Cal defense was going "Portal" on Texas for a moment there.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
And another fumble on special teams!
Edit: Apparently not.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:18 PM ^
Ah, muffed punt. Teams come and go, crappy play remains. Thank you bowl season.
Ed: Now we're reviewing the overturned muffed punt call. There could be four changes of possession during this play.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
Cal got bailed out on that one.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:20 PM ^
I hope Cal has an offense. I would like to get the Big 12 blow outs rolling here.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
...are the reason I was moved to right field for a time.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
Long drive ends with a 42 yard FG.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
Look like THAT, I'm going back to school.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:40 PM ^
Is John Carter a prequel to Flash Gordon?
December 28th, 2011 at 8:45 PM ^
Third and backyard football.... pass interfernce on Texas.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
That might be the longest pass completed to a Texas player all night.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
That's an interesting read vs. 3 deep. Hope that was just a mis-fire.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
Gosh, I love that word....I need to start using it in meetings.
An interception is a terrible way to end your drive from 3rd and 20, but then, you weren't really going to get that 1st down anyway, were you?
December 28th, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
If only Texas could acquire a first down on offense they would be in good shape.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:53 PM ^
Texas needs their defense to finish those plays off and score. Their offense can't move 20 yards.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
Everytime I hear that Nelly song I want to smash the TV...
December 28th, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
At least he's not coming to your city...
December 28th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
December 28th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
this Texas team hates offense
December 28th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
how can texas be so bad with all them 5 star recruits they bring in every year?
December 28th, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
The State to get.
December 28th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
And Texas successfully converts 1st and 10 into 4th and 11.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
I think it actually went wide of the Baja peninsula. Texas just cannot get it going on offense tonight.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
Bad quarterback play capped by a missed FG. I love footbaw.
December 28th, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
a missed FG.
It seems both teams are trying hard not to score
December 28th, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
Did the game just start?
December 28th, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
Those MAC bowls were more interesting than this game
December 28th, 2011 at 9:03 PM ^
Where was the weinerdog race open thread today?
