Hockey recruiting contacts at Michigan

Submitted by Blue in Paradise on

Quick question for the board - my nephew is a highly regarded hockey prospect out West in the Class of 2021. He is currently projected to go in the top 3 - 4 rounds of the WHL draft in his year but his parents would prefer he go the college route.

Other schools are just starting to reach out and he has a visit scheduled to University of North Dakota in a few months. He has family in Detroit and is a Michigan fan so he would be interested in checking things out the next time they are in town.

Does anyone know who would be the best person to contact? His coaches have contacts with a lot of schools but nothing direct with Michigan so his dad was just looking for someone to get in touch with.

I always thought it was a “they find you thing”. Maybe call the AD’s office? There is probably somebody who is head of M Hockey recruiting.

But hockey is not as developed as football and he is on the West Coast in Canada so our recruiting team may not know there is a connection to Michigan.  Also, this is normally done through the junior team coaches / directors and they are already making calls - but to schools other than Michigan.

He is getting interest from top tier teams (I mentioned UND and I think Wisconsin has reached out as well) so I figure it is at least work looking into.

and send an email to Mel and all of his assitance. Have the kid introduce himself and get them some information.  Give them contacts and if they have film send that. Let them know who is recruiting him. It's tough to find all prospects out there and sometimes the kid needs to sell himself.

We all need to bookmark this thread in case OPs nephew plays for Michigan. "Hey guys, remember that time _______'s uncle asked us how to get recruited to Michigan?"

so the above website is a portal for recruits and their parents/handlers to research the program.

I think there's a link there to contact a coach/send film/schedule a visit or Q&A. Other than directly emailing a coach that's what I'd look at. Shouldn't be any issues with compliance, unless you're actually giving them $$, food, or paying for thier accomodations to travel to A2.

The short story that the AD office gives people is to let the coaches do the recruiting.
