Hockey beats Dartmouth by a touchdown

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Had this game going on the laptop while MBB was playing (and beating) Texas. Was 5-0 by the time MBB's game ended.

Michigan went up 3-0 not even in 10 minutes into the game with Tyler Motte scoring two of the 3 and Cooper Marody getting one.

In the second period, Werenski and Evan Allen scored just 43 seconds apart to give Michigan a 5-0 lead.

Dartmouth has one of if not the worst PP defense in the country. Michigan contributed some more to that number as the Wolverines went 4-for-5 on the PP.

Nieves scored his second of this season in the 3rd and Werenski added another goal late to give Michigan a 7-0 win.

Steve Racine's second shutout win of his career. The scoreboard displayed Dartmouth outshooting Michigan by a couple, but I don't know how accurate that was. Didn't seem like it.

Michigan is now 7-2-1 and will face Dartmouth again tomorrow at 7:35 on an MGoBlue.com free stream.

A lot of other season ticket holders around us were debating whether or not to actually use their tickets tomorrow night since pretty much everyone has football tickets, too. No one can get rid of 'em, either. That's one hell of a long day with the gap in between the games. I'll bet you anything if you're in town and just start asking around, you could find yourself a cheap/free pair.

Simply cannot imagine how good M would be with him. Still have to see how he holds up when they go on the road after a long home stand, and it helps to play with Z and Abby, but that young man is a solid, if not spectacular, pro hockey player.

Left after the second already up 5-0. Packing for a 5:45 tailgating departure tomorrow plus a drive home in some super disgusting rain made staying for another period a not-so-fun proposition.

Dartmouth was chippy, but not very good. Goalie gave up tons of rebounds, our guys were moving the puck around like crazy and setting up total gimmie chances, and Racine played one hell of a game on a bunch of shots. Felt good to watch a bunch of goals in quick succession.

Also, felt like the first time the Thanksgiving Friday game was actually a sellout. It was crowded in there from the get-go. There were even a handful of pretty good-natured OSU fans in our section who just decided to take in a hockey game since they were already in town for the night.

The shot count was accurate, but the majority of the Big Green's shots were from the perimeter/low percentage areas, including on their 5-3. Michigan definitely had the advantage on quality scoring chances. Racine looked good (minus the one glove muff), he was seeing the puck well, on his angles and moving quickly and confidently.

Dartmouth's PK really does suck, but hopefully this will give us a confidence boost. I have noticed while Michigan still isn't scoring on the PP as much as I'd like, they have consistently been moving the puck well, quicker and more in synch this season.

Last night felt like a return to the late 90s teams. Keep it up boys!
