Someone closer to the process can correct me, but this seems like the biggest surprise of the recruiting procees so far. Not that we got him, but that it happened relativley early.
timing. RJS offer sheet has blown up recently. However, RJS has long shown interest in Michigan even prior to Hoke/Mattison, and he has been on campus at least three times since NSD. That is not a kid who gives a surprising commit.
I would say that the report that if NSD were today, that Zeke Pike would sign with M per Sam Webb is much more surprising, given his national profile. A cass-tech kid who has been a long time presence in Ann Arbor is not a surprise, but simply a great job by the coaches to keep great talent in-state, when he had some other high profile offers.

This class needs linebackers and lots of bodies on the lines. Two o-linemen and two 4-star linebackers makes for a really nice beginning this early in the process.

After the Spring game, I was standing behind Sam Webb when Coach Montgomery walked by. In a very quiet voice, Coach said to Sam "Did you hear about Royce?" and flashed a thumbs up and a smile.
