Kevonte is sure to add his name to the list of notable Lawndalers (Lawndalians?):
- Fred Dryer, NFL player and actor, raised in Lawndale in the 1950s, Lawndale High School alumnus.
- Russell Westbrook, NBA player, attended high school in Lawndale Leuzinger High School.
- Traci Lords, actress.
- Roy Rogers, famed actor and singer in Western-themed movies, radio programs and television shows.
- Tiran Porter, bass player for the Doobie Brothers
You got me @ Traci Lords.
“actress”
+1 understated
Quickly searching “Traci Lords,” but on Private mode, because I think I know what “actress means,” and I want to, eh uh, confirm.
Roy Rogers, the pride of Portsmouth Ohio
6-4 225lb linebacker.....That is a good sized LB.
Welcome aboard Kevonte.
He's probably going to be a Josh Uche type player, edge rush and get into the backfield asap--though I'm not comparing him in abilities to Josh Uche. Uche was a monster coming out of high school. He will likely be in the weight room a lot for 2 to 3 years, and up to 250, by the time he is an impact player. Uche went from 212 to 250. Kevonte Henry is probably going to have to do the same.
Not sure how big they will "MAKE" him, but I understand what you are saying. He definitely has the body. I'm thinking Jack Lambert or Randy Gradishar. JMO.
Passes over the middle may be tough with him.

Right now, more than half of Harbaugh's commits are 3 stars. Not exactly the trajectory you want to be on to turn the program around especially when you supposedly have a strong recruiting staff. This guy does have a USC offer so that's something.
What do you want from a team that went 2-4 last year with a roster that had mostly 4*&5* recruits. Although recruiting is the life-blood of a program, it’s only a piece of the larger puzzle.
It’s almost like people like the sport of recruiting more than the actual game.
What do you want from a team that went 2-4 last year with a roster that had mostly 4*&5* recruits.
A new head coach.
Well that’s not happening for a couple years at least. You can either learn to live with it or be bitter and take it out on us
I'd say Harbaugh's new contract strongly suggests he's on a very short leash.
Absolutely.
I don't think he's auto-fired at 8 wins. But 6-6? Dude is gone. Things will be at a fever pitch.
And in that case, it doesn't matter how many 4-5 stars this class has because they're all leaving.
Which is why I don't understand people who bitch about stars this year!
1. It doesn't matter...literally the only thing that matters this year is winning football games and none of these guys are going to help us do that this year. Because if we don't win games, Harbaugh is gone and so is half the recruiting class.
2. With COVID, evaluations are off more this year than EVER before. Half these guys didn't play last year, there were no camps, they're just now being discovered.
Worry about recruiting rankings in December when guys have film! Right now, for all you know, 1/4 of the 4 and 5 star guys could be guys who showed out early, but they haven't grown or gotten better since their sophomore year of HS. A lot of these evaluations are OLD.
If there was ever a year to "trust the coaches," its this year where the NCAA is allowing guys to have 1-on-1 workouts, on campus, in front of the coaches. That is incredible access.
I'd say its more important than highlight film from 2019.
It would be supremely stupid to retain Jim with the stipulation that he make major changes that will only see fruit in the long term (no it’s not in the contract but this was obviously part of the discussion) and then fire him the next year.
Does it seem plausible to anyone that Hart, Bellamy, Clink, MacDonald, Linguist (yes I know) and Weiss all came here without some assurance of stability? Most of these guys are upwardly mobile (see Linguist) and didn’t need to jump at Michigan just because we’re a blue blood
Your conflating and mixing things that don't need to be mixed.
Harbaugh was retained because of money, there were no better options and we were in the heart of a global pandemic. That's it.
It cost too much to fire him and give him and his staff tens of millions to go away when you're furloughing people, laying people off and people are dying at alarming rates.
Also, who is leaving their team to come to Michigan in at a time like we were in back in November/December? Guys weren't on campuses, how do you build a new staff? Do you really screw over your current school at a time like that to leave and go to Michigan?
Waaaay too much uncertainty. Plus you can chalk last years failure to everything going on. Don't forget, there was social unrest, politically it was as toxic as ever, but again...MONEY.
So that's why Harbaugh is back. The changes were Harbaugh, that's not his boss telling him he has to let his staff go. It can be suggested, but as a boss...why the fuck would you demand your HC change his staff? If he fails...now it's YOUR fault, not the HCs. That would be all-time stupidity.
As for the coaches, there are no assurances in coaching. So that makes no sense. Also, once again...MONEY plays a factor for some of these guys. Everyone's situation is different, but if you think they're guaranteed multiple years, you've lost it.
Do you not remember what it was like in Hoke's final year? Or Rich Rod? They were fired halfway through their last season...it was just a formality by the time OSU rolled around. If Harbaugh stinks it up like they did...it'll be the exact same. He's out.
And last, it has been reported that even if Harbaugh is out...a number of the ACs would get strong recommendations to stay (i.e. Hart and Clink). How many HCs did Fred Jackson have? There are a bunch of ACs around the country that are mainstays. Some think Hart would get an interview for the head job.
Who?
Who realistically could we get right now that I'd a clear upgrade?
Who could we get that's even seemingly on par, except Matt Campbell?
Just about everyone not Clemson, Bama, OSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Georgia wants a new coach. And maybe Florida and ND, maybe. Oh and probably UNC and Northwestern.
Not counting overachieving coaches at schools that aren't on Michigan's level, guys waiting for the next big step up (Iowa St., Coastal Carolina, etc.) that is 10 coaches.
Newsflash. Program changing coaches aren't out there. There is no...throw a ton of money at Jimbo and he'll come. Or luck into Urban Meyer in the right year and he'll come. Not unless you think Bob Stoops is the answer.
Look at USC, look at FSU, UCLA, Tennessee, Texas...Auburn just fired its coach. If LSU has a bad year, their coach will be on the hot seat.
That's college football.
Rich Rod.
Whoever is next must get back into Ohio. We must make it a rivalry again going after guys. Three top OT came from Ohio this cycle and we didn't get one. This is telling.
Agree. I’m tired of the negativity surrounding 3* recruits. Call me when JHs rate limiting step is the talent on the roster and not his ability to maximize use of that talent. Until then, bring on the high quality, hard working guys that want to be here.
This is such a bizarre defense of Harbaugh. He's recruiting poorly? OK but that's just because his teams are horrible. Get off his back!
I'm not so worried because like others have mentioned, these guys often haven't played or camped in forever. It's likely some guys will be in for big jumps.
It's bizarre because Harbaugh has recruited better than all but like 6-7 coaches in the COUNTRY. Since he's been at Michigan and one of those above him coaches the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Recruiting isn't the problem (except when we play Ohio State).
If I believe your comment on our recruiting prowess, than the only answer is subpar player development by the COACHES.
This season also happens to be the biggest crap shoot of any recruiting cycle in history considering most of these guys didn't play or attend camps last year.
Yeah, I assume that we're going to see a lot of volatility with the rankings this year (both good and bad) given how limited camps and seasons were last year and how even this summer there are still going to be gaps in evaluations.
Yeah, OSU is really struggling with recruiting because of COVID, and kids not getting to camp for exposure.
Michigan’s blah recruiting is absolutely an indictment on the perception of Jim Harbaugh and the program has a whole.
I don’t have a problem with 3* croots, but when 45% of your class are 3*’s you’re not going to win a whole lot. On top of that, it’s not like we’re beating out OSU and Bama for these 3* croots, we’re beating out the Baylor’s, WVU, NW, and Utah’s of the world. That doesn’t scream optimism.
Beating out nw, Utah? Etc.. ? Considering our class will finish much much higher than all of those schools your statement is false
Yeah, because we’re beating them for their top guys. So the statement is true.
If our bottom guys are Utah's and Northwestern's top guys, that probably means it a good class.
Wouldn't hurt you to do a little research BamBam. 45% 3 stars over 4 classes means 55% 4 or 5 star recruits -- which would be 14th best in the country (ND). There are only 16 teams in all of FBS with under 50% 3-stars.
Michigan is actually at 42% 3-stars over the last 4 years which puts them at #10 in the country behind only OSU in the B1G. (Granted OSU is at 21% 3-stars which puts them at #3 overall)
So you can say M doesn't develop or maximize talent, but your main argument is crap.
Google "Blue Chip Ratio" if you want more info.
If your metric is "how does UM compare in recruiting to OSU and Alabama", then UM will falter. But so will all but 2-3 other teams. Notre Dame made the playoffs last year and finished with the #9 team in terms of recruiting; they have 15 3* kids per 247. UM finished last cycle with 10 3* kids, with one of those being one of the top 3 punter/kickers in the country. USC finished #7 in recruiting last year with the same number of recruits as UM and had 7 3* kids. My point isn't that recruiting doesn't have areas to improve in, only that reflexively comparing UM to schools that have had a ton more recent success and also various other institutional advantages isn't going to be a good comparison.
The 2022 class is going to be recruiting rankings shit show due to covid messing up the past year. This is cycle where I'd more lean on trusting the coaches
As opposed to past seasons where we said trust the coaches? I'm just giving you sh!t. I agree, and the fact that a lot of these kids are actually working out in front of them and earning offers should mean something. New staff, new scheme, can't wait.
I love when people call perfectly valid and acceptable reasons for something happening "excuses."
Yes, but I think EGJ’s implications are:
1) COVID can be used as cover for failing
2) The poster thinks they are likely to fail because:
3) They suck
4) When that happens they will claim COVID
I don’t know if he necessarily thinks COVID isn’t real or that it isn’t a valid reason for not playing, or that COVID was an excuse last year.
Alabama and Ohio St will have better recruiting classes than Michigan. Covid won't screw it up for them. It's a level playing field. Things aren't worse for Michigan than other teams.
As Lloyd Carr once said, it's not an excuse, it's the truth.
Except when they're neither reasonable or acceptable. If everyone had a level playing field then they're just plain excuses...nothing more, nothing less.
Welcome to the age of arguments being fought with internet memes. Captions on a photo with pop culture references are now preferred over sound logic and reasoning.
If we’ve learned anything, is that trusting coaches haven’t gotten us anywhere.
Bowl of Cheerios meet Thad’s piss!!!
I’ll admit I’m pretty doom and gloom about recruiting myself but i have to imagine a lot of kids are mis-ranked this cycle due to covid.
I'm not sure how many times it can be said on here that absolutely every program, including Bama, signs several three-stars every year, but: Absolutely every program, including Bama, signs several three-stars every year
85% of Bama's recruits are 4 or 5 stars. So no, not really.
The majority of Michigan’s recruits are 4 and 5-stars as well, and that will likely end up being the case in this class in the end. And I said “several,” not “a majority.” Hope that clears things up! Have a great weekend
