It was per our own ACE (YTA) on Twitter. Here is a link to a story on Trouba:
Hello: Jacob Trouba (hockey)
Excellent news. With the talent level of Michigan's defense now and in the next few years, a goalie can't be far behind (crosses fingers).
Is there going to be a formal Hello post. I actually enjoy the details on the hockey recruits since that information isn't quite as readily available as the football players.
It must have been the fine coaching I gave Jacob in Little League baseball when he was a 10 year old infielder/catcher on my team.
Glad to hear he's coming to Michigan. At a young age, you could tell the kid was a superior athlete.
only assume he was an incredible Little League player.
Also, I love your sig. You must have been at the game too. Heck, my friend in the student section told me he didn't even hear that chant.
Right after they did that little chant the comeback mounted. I loved seeing the ND fans after the game. They weren't so happy for some reason.
I was in sec. 22 and you could clearly hear them.
So glad the come back started right after their little taunt.
This kid is big time. Consensus rankings for the 2012 NHL draft have him as the No. 4 overall prospect (worldwide, not just U.S.) and No. 3 defenseman. If he doesn't go to the OHL, he'll have an immediate and big impact. Full hello-post treatment coming tomorrow morning. Needless to say, this is a huge pickup for Red.
put 2 and 2 together, that was me on Twitter who told you to come comment over here on this haha. Thanks for the news, Ninja
No problem. Thanks for reminding me that I should be posting on the board and not just on Twitter. Still working on that...
with this fan base, at least you know it's gonna be covered well.
/StartTangent I feel like this is the most well informed fan base in America. I DARE someone to tell me otherwise. Come on interwebs. Prove me wrong /EndTangent
Ace, I have scouted Jacob more than a few times and have professional analysis on him. I could email some of it to you for the hello post if you want. Or just post it here, let me know.
make a diary please
Any post that inspires any kind of response from JimLahey gets my approval.
I will leave my opinions until after Ace has had a chance to introduce him to you guys. I can't really have anything ready in time anyways, I'm very busy tomorrow. Maybe I can make a thread or diary in a day or so. I will say this kid is BIG TIME and will be making millions soon.. He is a safe blue chip NHL prospect.
Is it too early to lay a JMFT on this kid? We just have to hope that we found a kid who will stick to his word. Losing a Kid with this kind of talent to the O would sting... a lot.
Jacob Trouba wants to be known as a man of his word. So when the highly touted defensive prospect is ready to make his decision whether to play in the OHL for the Kitchener Rangers -- who hold his CHL rights -- or the NCAA, there won't be any late de-commitments or promises broken. "That's sort of why I haven't (committed), because I don't want to make a commitment and then back down from it," said the 17-year-old on Wednesday, while in Toronto to take part in the NHL's Research and Development Camp.
So I'd say his commitment is probably as solid as they come
Love picking up a 5* defenseman, and it is especially sweet to do it at Notre Dame's expense.
Hopefully he stays on the college track and we see him at Yost next fall!
Nice, the never ending talent pool that comes to UofM
big pick up. also, pretty sure it's always been between us and notre dame so suck it again notre dame.
I'll still be surprised if he doesn't go the OHL route (maybe I'm still bitter about Gibson saying the whole time that he's 100% solid with Michigan, but I never trust the word of high-level atheletes because money talks), but I've been hoping this kid commits to Michigan for a long time. I really think he's got the potential to be the best defenseman to ever play for Michigan.
A few years back (maybe 2007, just before I moved out of Michigan), I was reffing a tournament in Michigan, and Trouba was an under-age kid but was easily the best kid on the ice. It was pretty apparent even at that age (he was like 13 playing with a fairly solid group of 15 year olds) that he had big things coming, and even his coach told me after the game when I asked about the kid that his future is every bit as bright as JMFJ's was at the same age.
Note to self: Must not get excited about elite level hockey recruits until first day of classes (see gibson).
I have known Jacob and his family since I was a little kid. I went to school with his older brother. His parents want him to go to school and get an education otherwise he probably would head to the OHL. He is like many other top high school athletes, he thinks that he is going to surely make millions and that injuries are out of the question. So if he could avoid doing anymore schoolwork he would probably take that route, but his parents aren't going to let that happen. I would be willing to bet that he is in Ann Arbor next fall preparing and ready to make a massive impact after being a very high draft pick this spring.
