Not pooping on the kid one bit.  I hope he ends up being an amazing player for Michigan.  But that ranking has be 100% suspect.

Even kids who's rankings haven't been updated by certain sites almost always have offer lists that match the perceived potential of the recruit.  If even 50% of the  Power 5 programs viewed this kid as a top 20 DE in the country his offer sheet would look drastically different than Ball State and Army.

That being said...Welcome kid and I hope you reek havoc on offenses for years to come!!!

Is listed as a WDE, but has the look and profile of a SDE or DT, which is great.  If he's really 250 a year away from HS graduation, he's not a WDE in college unless he has elite athleticism, and I don't see that.

DePaul is one of the  6 North Jersey Parochial powerhouses along with Don Bosco, Paramus Catholic, St. Joseph's, Bergen Catholic and St. Peter's that show up in national rankings.. Now this school that this kid is from is in South Jersey so I don't know them that well. They call Taylor ham pork roll down there so I don't pay them much mind(spits tobacco into spitoon.)

I don't know why fans cannot deal with someone being 100% objective and think that, just because they are being 100% objective, they are "angry, miserable and negative people".

The objective truth, devoid of emotion, is that recruits like this will not beat OSU.  That isn't being negative or positive.  It is simply making an observation and drawing the most likely / obvious conclusion.

Now, we can still enjoy watching Michigan play...root for them in every game...and hope for a "W" the las week in November.  But let's not be delusional about the state of the program, or call fans "negative and miserable" for simply pointing out the clearly obvious and then drawing conclusions that are also just as clear and obvious.

Except this isn’t objective. Recruiting rankings are not objective.

Baker Mayfield was ranked #1,029 coming out of high school. He walked on at two different schools before winning a Heisman and going on to be the #1 draft pick. He also *checks notes* beat OSU. Purdue, a team FILLED with players like this, blew OSU out by four TDs.

Players outplay their rankings all the time. And no one player is going to beat OSU anyway. I’ll take a Ryan Glasgow over a Will Campbell/Ondre Pipkins anyway. The abilities of individual players aren’t tied to their recruiting rankings. It’s a GUESS.

You can pretend your negativity is “objective.” But it’s absolutely not.

It isn't useful when making an argument to pick some crazy outlier that is by far an away the exception to the rule (ie Baker Mayfield or Purdue beating OSU).  If OSU and Purdue play 20 times , OSU wins 19 of 20.  Three star players, on average, end up being exactly that.  My argument that picking up players that have offers only from Army, AF, and Ball State are not very talented kids (kids capable of beating OSU).

I 100% agree with you that one kids individual ranking isn't objective.  What I would argue is "objective" is the overall ranking of a class...or at least it provides indicators that are way more objective than subjective as far as prognostic talent level of a football team.

For example, one three star recruit may not be an objective indicator of a kids talent...but a recruiting class made up mostly of 3 star talent is going to be a fairly objective indicator of a football teams future talent and capability

My guess is that Lake.... is insecure, single and likely has never been well connected or liked.  It applies to most of the neg crowd around here.  The same people who if they ever met said "lowly three star" players would fall at their jocks and ask for a selfie or autograph in a very obvious and sad way.

I may be wrong but my best educated assumption.

Well, I can clear up you curiosity.  I am 43 and a married father of 2 kids.  One is in college in South Florida and the other is a sophomore in high school.  I have been in the Pharma / Biotech world for 21 years.

Furthermore, I am not a glass is half full or a glass is half empty....I am a "there is exactly this much water in the glass" kind of guy.  I am simply making the obvious statement that, while I am happy for this kid, pumped he gets to live out his dream, I am also not going to go crazy.

My hope is to see Michigan be able to compete with and beat OSU.  Kids like this aren't going to get the team in that direction.  Thats it.  There is actually zero negativity.

How emotionally fragile must you be to respond in such a way.  Go look at any post I have made in this thread.  I haven't trashed the kid in any way.  Actually, I said I was happy for him to be able to live out his dream and have such an offer.  That I hope he tears up offenses for years to come.

What I did say was, that kids like this (unless he is a crazy outlier and people are almost never such), aren't going to be of the talent level of where I hope Michigan can get to, which is beating OSU and competing for Playoff spots.

That is my hope for the team...and since that is where I hope Michigan gets, I of course am hoping for kids of sufficient talent to come to Michigan.  You may be totally happy where the program is currently (and that is 100% ok), and so you are excited to get athletes like this.  You simply have to understand that not everyone thinks like you.  Some really want Michigan back to beating OSU and realize what talent it will take to do that.

Crazy outlier? You can go through the draft every single year and pick out 7-8 three star or lower kids in the first round alone. Teams like Wisconsin (and MSU until recently) roll out 10 wins a year with guys like this.

Then people want to act like getting 1-2 of these kids in a recruiting class is what’s stopping us from being elite? That’s asinine, and certainly isn’t objective.

Maybe the kid pans out, maybe he doesn’t. But you can say that for any recruit. Judging a kid on his recruiting rankings is anything but objective. Especially recruiting rankings from March of his junior year of high school.

Welcome Dom!

I know we're not allowed to be positive about anything right now but after some light viewing of his Hudl highlights, this kid has some twitch to him. I can dig it. Brown can pluck a good DE out of the Northeast every once in a while.
