Offering middle school boys.....smh. I don't buy into the whole "get in early" hysteria that seems to be sweeping college recruiting . You can offer this kid just as easy in 10th grade as you can 8th. And by then you can see if he's still special or if he just developed/matured earlier than his peers.

I am not sure if the handbook has some cutoff for how far along in life, if you will, you can make an offer of some kind, but the definition of "prospective student-athlete" basically has a sole prerequisite that the student in question has to be in ninth grade, which would essentially be true for Pappoe as of whenever the current semester ends for him, I suppose. I think there are even exceptions that say if the student receives benefits from the school or relations that are not generally available, they can be considered a "prospective student-athlete" even sooner.

I have a friend that I played football with in high school, he had letters from 6 different SEC schools as early as 8th grade. This was 26 years ago. Granted he had at the time an uncle who was an 8 time all pro offensive lineman, and a cousin who was in his senior year at Auburn who went on to play 9 years in the NFL as well. This is nothing new in the south
