Harbaugh on Cowherd Tomorrow around 10:15

Not promoting ESPN by any means but it will be interesting to see Colin walk the plank after basically laughing at the notion that JH would ever consider coming to AA for over a month.

I’ll jump on the Colin Cowherd bandwagon with you – easy to do with so few MGoBloggers jumping on. I expect that he'll go hard after the Ondre Pipkins story, because ESPN has made it a big issue; and I expect that Jim Harbaugh will be able to give as well as he can take any heat about that story. (I've always liked Ondre Pipkins, ever since I saw his Brady Hoke impersonation at the U. S. Army All American Game; but if there's truth to the health risks that he'd face by continuing to play football, then I can understand Michigan's concerns for his welfare and the decision to not let him compete this year.)

Colin Cowherd has become a reasonably good choice for me when I want to listen to sports talk radio while driving between 10 AM and noon on weekdays. I’ve been living in the metropolitan New York City area for a long time. I don’t like any of the local sports radio hosts. If I ever hear Stephen A. Smith or Skip Bayless, it’s time to switch the channel.

Because (a) my rooting interest in New York area pro sports teams is limited to the Giants, Rangers and Knicks, (b) I don’t yet have Sirius XM radio and (c) I’m a college sports/international soccer fan, if I’m not playing podcasts like Men in Blazers, Colin Cowherd has become my “local” sports radio host.

While he’s opinionated and self-centered, I rarely find him to be mean-spirited; and I often find that he’s willing to back up his opinions with detailed facts (well, maybe not in the case of the 2015 Michigan football team's prospects for success.) I don’t really find him to be very “shocking.” He also occasionally will acknowledge where he has been wrong.

Most importantly for me, he’s not a “narrowcaster” who limits his discussion to the New York Yankees’ payroll or their starting pitching, or whether the New York Mets have a chance of making the 2015 playoffs, or whether Geno Smith should be the starting QB for the New York Jets.  He designs his broadcast to reach a national audience.

A few things...

1.  His take on Harbaugh not leaving the NFL was shared by many.  I see nothing wrong with anything he said.  Sure, it ended up being incorrect.  But his opinion during that 4 minutes were not disrespectful or outlandish.  It was an opinion many share(d) about Harbs, CFB, NFL and the UM gig.

2.  Sports radio is largely repetitive and unimaginative.  Cowherd is repetetive, but he is actually creative.  I might not agree with all of his opinions, but at least they make me think.  Mike Golic, on the other hand, has never said anything ever that I did not already know.

3.  CC and Harbs both have pretty big egos.  I'll be interested tomorrow who controls the interview.  CC dominates his "sources" when they are on the show.  But a few weeks ago he had on Seinfeld and there was no doubt who was the alpha dog in the interview (not CC).

Quote from ESPN NBA suck-up-in-chief Chriss Broussard's "insider take" on rumors of John Calipari going to Sacramento:  "It's not a stretch that they may have talked about it to some degree."  Wow, that's journalism. No word yet on if he has figured out a way to add a syllable to Coach Cal's name, as so eloquently has for "Duh-wayne Wade" or "Duh-wight Howard"

Agreed...Broussard is horrible.  He has the master at using 75 words to say something he could have said in 20 words.  And this Windhorst guy is a miserable excuse for an insider.

Simmons was the glue to their NBA staff.

I will never forget him trying to troll Michigan fans with his tweets during the coaching search. It's unfortunate that someone like him occupies such a wide-reaching platform.

This interview was obviously painful for Harbaugh, but it's not like Cowherd did him any favors calling him out alleging he doesn't understand how to sell his program.

Cowherd says that was the worst interview he has ever given. He did that on purpose. It's not that hard to build rapport, even with a guy like Harbaugh. You just need to understand what the person cares about. Cowherd's said he follows him on Twitter and that it's evident he is committed to the community. Why not ask him about throwing out the first pitch at the Tigers game last night?

I mean this was Cowherd's first question: when are you at your least intense?

Harbaugh: I don't know. Ask Sarah, my wife.

Harbaugh: This feels like 50 questions in a row.
