Happy Trails: '22 #1 CB Domani Jackson Commits to USC

Submitted by Denard In Space on January 23rd, 2021 at 3:49 PM

Like the title says. What do folks think about our prospects for replenishing the secondary? I was cautiously optimistic we could pull at least one of Jackson / Will Johnson, but now I am more nervous.

Doesn't Look like he's a candidate to flip, either:

"I visited a few other places and it always felt good to be back home," Jackson said. "A few weeks ago I was in Texas and while I was there, I missed being home with my family and that's when I knew I was ready to go ahead and make my decision.

"I've known it was going to be USC for a little bit here and I just didn't see a need to waste anyone's time. Now all the schools can move on and recruit other players and I don't have to worry about recruiting, all the calls and messages. It's a great feeling and I'm just really excited to be a Trojan."

“Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei junior defensive back...”

I don’t follow recruiting much anymore, but did we ever have a real shot with this kid? I’d say he was kind to give us a nod in putting us on the list with OSU, Clemson, Bama, and his hometown school.

I never believed that, and if you read what he said, he pretty much confirmed USC was the leader. His dad likes Michigan, but I think he has been USC's to lose. The talk about them playing together seems like a bunch of BS also now. I guess in his mind if Will Johnson goes out west, it will come true, but his current leader is OSU.

I know it is increasingly likely, but if Will Johnson ends up at OSU.. just. wow. The disappointment surrounding Michigan's program is reaching the levels of nauseating. We are Ohio State's cucks at that point.

I'm sure this comment will get downvoted, and maybe deservedly so, but there is just no way a kid from U of M's backyard, who's own father is a program legacy should end up playing for the program's mortal enemy.

When a scenario plays out like that, your rival is simply eating your lunch to the point where the best players in your own state, of which you are heavily pursuing, consider it a better option to sign with a program that relishes embarrassing the "marquee" football program of his home state.

Willing to actively contribute to the defeat of his own family's football program at the hands of their heated rival. There is no way to explain that away. Fucking embarrassing.

I wrote the comment specifically in a way that was not meant to neg Will or Deon. Of course, they are going to do what they feel is best for Will's situation.

The comment is voicing frustration that Michigan has potentially put themselves in a situation where an exceptional local talent with family ties to the program views our arch rival as a more compelling option than a program that all else considered should have everything going in their favor. Nowhere in my post did I make any disparaging comments about either Will or Deon.

According to recruit247 instagram the guy that makes all the edits for these recruits and made domanis posted an edit for Michigan saying Domani actually planned to commit to Michigan after his visit in November so it definitely is not impossible to get him to flip if he was the close to committing in November

Sounds like the guy just wants to stay home. I might like our chances of flipping him after Helton gets fired if he was talking about the USC staff more, but it’s mostly about staying home. We just need to go all in and make sure we get Johnson. We can’t miss on a 5* legacy recruit in our own backyard.

The new staff needs some time to get going. I think they will recruit very well. We will know more in about six months, and it would be unrealistic to hope they could meaningfully impact guys like Jackson who had probably made their decisions before the new staff was even hired.

?‍♂️ it happens. Wanted him to come to M but it is what it is.

I know about the whole "package deal" talk with Will Johnson, but I believe Johnson is definitely going Blue.

At least he didn’t choose Ohio State.  This is what my Michigan football fandom has been relegated to, being happy when something doesn’t work out for Ohio State.  Pathetic.
