Happy Trails: '22 #1 CB Domani Jackson Commits to USC
Like the title says. What do folks think about our prospects for replenishing the secondary? I was cautiously optimistic we could pull at least one of Jackson / Will Johnson, but now I am more nervous.

Doesn't Look like he's a candidate to flip, either:
"I visited a few other places and it always felt good to be back home," Jackson said. "A few weeks ago I was in Texas and while I was there, I missed being home with my family and that's when I knew I was ready to go ahead and make my decision.
"I've known it was going to be USC for a little bit here and I just didn't see a need to waste anyone's time. Now all the schools can move on and recruit other players and I don't have to worry about recruiting, all the calls and messages. It's a great feeling and I'm just really excited to be a Trojan."

Damn, USC is getting a very mature player in conjunction to his talent judging by that second paragraph.
January 23rd, 2021 at 6:17 PM ^
Mature? He's the one committing to a school with a condom for a mascot.
Sorry, jk, I'll see myself out.
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:45 PM ^
On the positive, since he is a high level recruit, at least he won’t be a mediocre college player at Michigan and then have a nice NFL career or have to transfer to another school.
January 23rd, 2021 at 6:49 PM ^
You win, sir.
January 23rd, 2021 at 3:53 PM ^
He was always going to USC. Can't lose something you never had.
January 23rd, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
Yeah. People got hopes up on someone already leaning one way.
January 23rd, 2021 at 6:01 PM ^
Yaup....i didn’t expect this was a real thing at all.
January 23rd, 2021 at 6:21 PM ^
I blame Sam Webb
January 23rd, 2021 at 3:54 PM ^
I'm sure there will be no hesitation on his behalf after USC goes 6-6 next year.
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:15 PM ^
you mean, compared to 2-4?
January 23rd, 2021 at 3:55 PM ^
It’s a long time until signing day - Will Johnson may independently choose Michigan, so who knows...
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
I agree, they both said they are a "package deal" which is total bullshit.. 0 chance Will Johnson goes to USC
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:39 PM ^
Johnson is headed to OSU.
January 23rd, 2021 at 3:56 PM ^
“Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei junior defensive back...”
I don’t follow recruiting much anymore, but did we ever have a real shot with this kid? I’d say he was kind to give us a nod in putting us on the list with OSU, Clemson, Bama, and his hometown school.
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
Michigan was his dream school and he actually almost committed to Michigan back in November
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
I never believed that, and if you read what he said, he pretty much confirmed USC was the leader. His dad likes Michigan, but I think he has been USC's to lose. The talk about them playing together seems like a bunch of BS also now. I guess in his mind if Will Johnson goes out west, it will come true, but his current leader is OSU.
January 23rd, 2021 at 5:05 PM ^
I’d love to know how many kids who’ve called Michigan their “dream school” actually ended up here. Any recruiting experts keep tabs on that?
January 23rd, 2021 at 5:19 PM ^
It was already confirmed he was about to commit after the visit, there was an edit made and everything
January 23rd, 2021 at 10:57 PM ^
And he just committed to USC, and not his dream school.
January 23rd, 2021 at 6:02 PM ^
I know it is increasingly likely, but if Will Johnson ends up at OSU.. just. wow. The disappointment surrounding Michigan's program is reaching the levels of nauseating. We are Ohio State's cucks at that point.
I'm sure this comment will get downvoted, and maybe deservedly so, but there is just no way a kid from U of M's backyard, who's own father is a program legacy should end up playing for the program's mortal enemy.
When a scenario plays out like that, your rival is simply eating your lunch to the point where the best players in your own state, of which you are heavily pursuing, consider it a better option to sign with a program that relishes embarrassing the "marquee" football program of his home state.
Willing to actively contribute to the defeat of his own family's football program at the hands of their heated rival. There is no way to explain that away. Fucking embarrassing.

My Dad allowed me to pick my own college to attend and then allowed me to choose my own career path.
What could he have been thinking?
January 23rd, 2021 at 8:40 PM ^
I wrote the comment specifically in a way that was not meant to neg Will or Deon. Of course, they are going to do what they feel is best for Will's situation.
The comment is voicing frustration that Michigan has potentially put themselves in a situation where an exceptional local talent with family ties to the program views our arch rival as a more compelling option than a program that all else considered should have everything going in their favor. Nowhere in my post did I make any disparaging comments about either Will or Deon.

5*s being Michigan fans continues to be a kiss of death
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:43 PM ^
That's RB.
January 23rd, 2021 at 3:59 PM ^
Nothing is over until we decide it is...was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor??
January 24th, 2021 at 3:37 AM ^
No, but when the Japanese were defeated at Stalingrad then it was pretty much over for Russia.
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:01 PM ^
According to recruit247 instagram the guy that makes all the edits for these recruits and made domanis posted an edit for Michigan saying Domani actually planned to commit to Michigan after his visit in November so it definitely is not impossible to get him to flip if he was the close to committing in November
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
i wouldn't be surprised if he flips when Will Johnson is rdy to commit, but i would only think Michigan is the only school he flips to with Johnson
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:22 PM ^
I’m shocked.
SHOCKED, I TELL YOU!
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:29 PM ^
Cheer up, folks! We now have a Linguist who speaks the language of defensive backs.
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:33 PM ^
Sounds like the guy just wants to stay home. I might like our chances of flipping him after Helton gets fired if he was talking about the USC staff more, but it’s mostly about staying home. We just need to go all in and make sure we get Johnson. We can’t miss on a 5* legacy recruit in our own backyard.
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:47 PM ^
The new staff needs some time to get going. I think they will recruit very well. We will know more in about six months, and it would be unrealistic to hope they could meaningfully impact guys like Jackson who had probably made their decisions before the new staff was even hired.
January 23rd, 2021 at 4:50 PM ^
?♂️ it happens. Wanted him to come to M but it is what it is.
I know about the whole "package deal" talk with Will Johnson, but I believe Johnson is definitely going Blue.
January 23rd, 2021 at 5:06 PM ^
At least he didn’t choose Ohio State. This is what my Michigan football fandom has been relegated to, being happy when something doesn’t work out for Ohio State. Pathetic.
January 23rd, 2021 at 5:14 PM ^
Still think we land Johnson. About 80% sure. Jackson sounds like he was always picking USC.
January 23rd, 2021 at 5:28 PM ^
5 star from California, never thought we had a real chance. Hopefully we can get Johnson.
January 23rd, 2021 at 5:37 PM ^
At least it wasn't a ROJO situation where Michigan stuck by the injured kid and the kid turned around and decided to go to SC.
January 23rd, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
Thank god Warde signed that extension for Jim. /s
January 23rd, 2021 at 6:45 PM ^
As part Michigan fan, I’m not too surprised he didn’t commit. As other part USC fan, I’m excited for this commit!
