Shitty effort from all four guys on that last goal. Pathetic.

Well I'm ready for 2014, let's hope Michigan's fortune changes with the calendar.

I'll say it: the outdoor hockey thing has completely lost its novelty for me. Went to the first three (Cold War, Madison, and the Big Chill), and it's just a shitty way to both play and watch a hockey game. Especially one that even remotely means something.

There's been so many now that it's lost it's appeal. It was cool the first few times, but there's nothing special about it anymore.

I mean, I don't know what's worse: the fact that the puck jumps around like popcorn on the shitty ice, or that the fans a mile away in the seats probably can't see it anyway.

Great, but you had the leisure of not skating on said ice if the conditions were too warm, and the luxury of knowing skating on your grandpa's ice didn't mean anything for anybody other than yourself. As opposed to games scheduled months ahead of the weather forecast in venues not meant for hockey, and temporary ice surfaces that are usually far below the quality you get in a permanent venue.
I appreciate the nostalgia trip, but it's a pretty shitty product for fans, and leaves far too much to chance for the players. Give me Michigan-MIchigan State in a rocking Yost or a not-library Munn any day of the week over what's going to happen tomorrow at Comerica, especially when the ice was pretty much shit before the second game even began.

it was novel for the original Michigan-MSU title and then for the Big Chill but now it's just a recipe for terrible ice and terrible sightlines. It's not even cool on TV because it's usually played in front of half-full (if they're lucky) outdoor stadiums and arenas. It's being way way overdone at this point

I'm still shocked that happened. Everyone messed up on that play.
Michigan was playing four across the line in a diamond. To get technical it looks like a 1-2-1.
DeBlois got beat at the top, Selman took a terrible angle from the left side and put space between him and Downing for Pitt to sneak through.
Even with both of those mistakes Downing still had position, but for whatever reason he went for the body check and missed. Three whifs on one play, I still can't believe it.

but I did find this video of the goal. What awful defense. He was barely impeded at all

I could have went my entire life without seeing this.
I was pissed off enough just listening to the web feed.
