Good places to go in Atlanta tonight for food/drink?

Heading out soon for Atlanta with my 14 year old son for the game. I haven't been before and was hoping for some recommendations for good food/drink establishments. Go Blue!

You have your 14 year old with you?

I’m a Chicago guy, but filmed a commercial at Atlantic Station last Spring. There is dining/shopping & a movie theater there.

Agree that varsity is a must do, but a lot of people don't like the food if you can't handle oily.  Fox bros BBQ is good (I prefer Community BBQ more). Vortex has good burgers, but your son will be too young to get in, so don't plan that.  Antico pizza is damn good and the guy that owns it owns another restaurant next to it (popular for its lemon chicken) and a Cafe that are good too.  Waffle house never disappoints if you haven't had it (order hash browns, even if it's just hashbrowns to eat)

If you want top shelf food and good service, Chops lobster bar is my favorite for a nice meal out with the wife.

14 year old son? (You make no mention of price but I'm guessing you are more interested in local than top of the line)

If you can head over to the Emory area (N Decatur Rd) it will probably not be very crowded given the students are all gone. Saba, Double Zero or Romeos (Italian/Pizza), Dave's cosmic subs (self explanatory) or Doc Chey's Dragon Bowl (Asian) all probably hit his palate and maybe yours. There's also a decent sushi place (Wagaya) and your standard chipolte/falafel king.

Ponce City Market has an excellent food mall with a cool growler store that will sell you 16 oz bottles and Fosters can size beers

if you like spicy try the Chinese place there called Ba I think.  Anything with Hot and Numbing will hit the spot

Hudson’s Grille is a reliable local sports bar chain with good food

Fritti is a great pizza place in a cool neighborhood, shares owners with Sotto Sotto next door...one of the best Italian places in town...you can go to Fritti and ask the server to let you order something off the Sotto Sotto menu.

South City Kitchen is a great place for southern food

The Jeju Sauna and Spa, Home of Wellbeing:

Great Korean food, and you can swim in their freezing Olympic pool or partake of the air in the gold-plated hut. Go and you'll often see both professional and amateur athletes there to get massages. If you want to you can sleep overnight, save on that expensive hotel.

For drinks, the red phone booth speakeasy. Ask your hotel concierge for the number to get in. https://www.facebook.com/rpbatlanta/ The Italian restaurant above it was pretty good too.

What area are you staying in?  There are a ton of good spots depending on area and what you are looking for.

Downtown Atlanta sorta sucks ... Stats is a good option.  If you are looking for a good meal - West Midtown is a good option (JCT kitchen, Miller Union, Cooks & Soldiers, Nuevo Laredo, Bar Taco, Bocado Burger).  If you are willing to Uber 20 minutes, go check out the Battery adjacent to new Braves stadium. Can’t go wrong with El Felix or Antico Pizza.  Then can head to Sport & Social or Punch Bowl Social to watch bowl games.

I’m currently drinking at sweetwater brewing.  I took a $10 Lyft out here. There are a few Florida fans here. I have a fellow alum and a UGA alum approach me. Chill place. Good beer.

If you want to go out drinking I’d suggest the Little Five Points section of town.  The Porter Beer Bar is excellent and nearby is Wrecking Bar Brew Pub

Buckhead isn’t what it was 10 years ago, but the area where Peachtree meets Roswell is where the action is

Varsity is meh. Its a total tourist trap. I've lived here for over three years, never once set foot in the Varsity n that time, and I'm fine with that. Went there a few times when I was a kid when we were just passing through town, and it's not all it's cracked up to be. The only thing its good for, in my mind, is an overrated chili dog and diarrhea.

Vortex Burger is great, but I can't remember if they have a 21 and up policy. I think they do. Ponce City Market has some amazing spots to eat and is an easy Uber ride from downtown if you're staying around the stadium.

Any Three Dollar Cafe you can find is great. So is Ray's. As far as breakfast spots, go to Buckhead Diner (get there early). Amazing breakfast. So is Buttermilk Kitchen in Buckhead, but again, another place you have to get to early, or you will be waiting. But they have an AMAZING menu. Or if you're really feeling adventurous and are willing to make a drive, head up to Duluth (about 25-30 mins northeast of downtown) and go to a place called Maple Street Biscuit Company. Hands down my favorite breakfast spot in Atlanta. If you like biscuit sandwiches or biscuits and gravy, then this place is for you. You will NOT be disappointed if you go there.

I’m a bit of a snob but I don’t like Flying Biscuit. Or let’s put it this way: I don’t think they are Atlanta’s gift to the world like so many others think they are. I think their biscuits are really ordinary. The grits are decent, but that’s about it.

There’s at least 10 other places in this town that I’d go to for breakfast before Flying Biscuit.
