Go Army, Beat Navy

3:00 EST, CBS.

Game in Philly again. Army set to sing last for the 3rd straight year. West Point will be rocking some beautifully designed uniforms honoring my own division, The Big Red One. With tribute to the division that finally broke the German lines during WWI at the Battle of Cantigny.

Danger Forward.

My dad was Big Red 1, participant in The Battle of the Bulge.  He was also the first US soldier to cross into Bonn.  Not sure exactly how dangerous it was on the front line at that particular time, but he was involved in a lot of heavy combat.  Survived it all & somehow came out of it with a good disposition.  He was my own personal war hero.

I knew quite a few guys in the Navy, pretty much exclusively enlisted, who rooted for Army in this game because they did not like the officers that came out of Annapolis.

I definitely also knew one guy who could not have fit the worst of all stereotypes any better than he did.

All that said, Go Navy, beat Army.  This is not really Navy's year, though....

One of my best friends graduated from Army in 2004. Even though he is a Buckeye fan, this game has meant more to me since he started there in 2000.  I also can’t help but get emotional watching both teams after the game. One of the greatest games and tradition of all time.

Go Army!

In 2001, my battalion had a goat roast following what would be the last Army victory for 14 years. I had never eaten goat before and it was delicious. I soon found myself in Afghanistan and was able to eat it all the time even though we went on an epic losing streak.

Our Army friends seem full of confidence this year. Yes, they are 9-2 with impressive victories over Liberty, Buffalo, SJSU, EMU, Lafayette and Colgate. They also gave Oklahoma a scare. Navy has certainly struggled at 3-9 - their worst season since 2002 - with some close losses and some ugly ones as well (those Air Force and Cincinnati games - woof).

While the records point to an decisive Army victory, the S&P rankings indicate this might be a pretty close game: Army is ranked 83 and Navy isn't that far back at 102. I think Navy's kicker will redeem himself this year. Navy 31 - Army 30.

Go Navy!

Was just talking to a VietNam vet at the local tire shop.  Saw him walk in with the Gary Owen 7th Cav hat(see We We’re Soldiers).  I enlisted during Desert Storm and was in the 9th Cav.  Today’s game is for pride, esprit de corps, win or lose it shows the commitment and determination of our next generation of officers to be in the greatest Army & Navy in the world.  Go Army beat Navy!

Go America!!! I have no particular favorite.  Just a hearty amount of admiration for every kid who will take the field.  God bless every one of them.

Partial to Annapolis because a couple of good friends are/were on the faculty there, but I have tremendous respect for all who attend/attended/teach at/work at the service academies.

"As long as every year, there are about 10,000 18-year-olds who can and who want to attend the service academies, I do not fear for the future of my country."

GO ARMY!!!!!  This game brings out the best uniforms of the year across any sport.  So glad that this game gets the weekend to itself!

Army vs. Navy, one of the great reasons why I love college football so much more than the NFL.  Look forward to a great game and wish all those young men well as they are deployed around the world.
