Gene Smith's Twitter Reveals He's as Dumb as You Thought

Submitted by Max on

Note: This post is based on what appears to be a legitimate Gene Smith twitter page. It is unverified, but I think that a cursory check of his timeline suggests very strongly that the account is indeed Smith's; if not, it must be someone with privileged access to OSU events.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has listened to Gene Smith speak and been overwhelmed by a feeling that this dude just isn't very intelligent.  But, you figure that at the very least, he must be doing something right to have achieved his status.  He just can't be as dim as he seems, right? Well, his twitter page suggests that if he is a smart guy, he does his best to disguise it.  As you read, take a moment to ponder how you'd feel if this stuff was popping up on Dave Brandon's timeline.

Some highlights:

Mens Volleyball wins in 3, last regular season home game,, undefeated at home,,,,,

On way from San Antonio to Houston to get ready for final four,,, 3 teams in one more needed,,

Ron Stokes in the house.. Looks like is working not just supporting his daughter...who (rumor has it) can take him to the hoop easily!! :)

If u r not here u should be!! Buckeye Hoops at it's best!!http://yfrog.com/h43k1bj

@Brutus249 grandkids come first!! Go where there luv to go

Tough day in the apple!!! Still love our bucks!! They still have big opportunities ahead...Hats of to UCONN and Geno..

Among other glaring mistakes that you might think would be uncharacteristic of a big-time AD, he seems to think that ellipses are constituted by anywhere between two and six commas. Sure, it's just twitter.  But go ahead and compare Smith's random capitalization and punctuation with Devin Gardner's thoughtful, lucid tweeting.

And you wondered why Gene Smith switched from written performance reviews to verbal ones... well, there's that paper trail thing, too.

No mere twitter feed is going to make him look nearly as stupid as I think he is.

I am going to reserve judgement, though.  If THE Ohio State University gets away with their latest round of cheating without the serious hammer coming down. Smith will suddenly look like a genius.  Well, sorta...

I would say he obviously can conform to the non-rules of Twitter, at the very least. The true comparison would be checking the Twitter accounts of other Parseghian-era Notre Dame players.

and tried to find anything the least bit funny or inappropriate and was not able to.  Seems like pretty normal stuff to me.

I'm not exactly sure what you were grasping for here.

are you guys not amused by that? I saw the presser and the man is physically stupid,,,this is just further evidence,,,,they should put a delta on the scoreboard like they have at Cavs games so OSU staff can keep up,,,,

Seriously,,,,,the Cavs have a point differential on the scoreboard,,,,,,we should take away Ohio's right to vote,,,

Gene Smith is not the brightest but this looks to be the usual type of Twitter chatter. Not much evidence here to support being dumb. Irregardless though, I wouldn't expect older guys like Smith to be all the tech savvy anyways.
