Freshmen Participation Tracker after 13 Games (and historical comparison)

Submitted by milk-n-steak on December 4th, 2022 at 10:41 PM

After 13 victories in a row, here are the freshmen participation numbers:

Seven freshmen played in every single game of the season! (M had 31 players overall participate in all 13 games this season)

What amazing work by the players themselves with help from the Strength and Conditioning staff, the medical team, nutritionists, and coaches,

Seven seemed like a lot so I used mgoblue.com to look back through the Harbaugh era and checked into freshmen who played in every game of the season.

2015: Grant Perry

2016: Devin Asiasi, Ben Bredeson, Devin Bush, Chris Evans, Rashan Gary, Eddie McDoom

2017: Ben Mason, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Ambry Thomas, Aubrey Solomon

2018: Ronnie Bell, Aidan Hutchinson, Jake Moody

2019: Zach Charbonnet, Dax Hill, Giles Jackson, Mike Sainristil

2020: didn't look

2021: Junior Colson

These young men are in pretty good company.

Hoping Hill-Green will be available for the CFP games.

This next month is critical for a lot of guys on this list. The vets who play will be resting up, there will be plenty of 2nd team reps for some of these guys to hold it down for 2-3 weeks.

Yeah I'm super curious to see the development.  The long break before bowl games is perfect for guys like JJ to get a little sharper or for freshman to break into the rotation.

Interesting that Zeke Berry only played in a few games.  Seth was all about him and thought he would crack the 2 deep by mid-season.  The guy is a freak athlete and I look forward to seeing what he can do next season.  As good as this team is now, I think they'll be even better next season.

Were Will Johnson, Mason Graham, Derrick Moore and Jimmy Rolder ever on the field together against Purdue? I vaguely remember counting at least three true freshmen on the field at the same time on a number of occasions (I think the first three all started). Even better, were there ever five on the field at once?

This is a crazy young defense...

“Seven freshmen played in every single game of the season!”

Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but there are just six guys on your chart who have played in all 13 games:

Johnson, Moore, Loveland, Rolder, Graham, Grant

Anyone know what's up with CJ stokes? He seemed geared up ready to rock this weekend and I'm not sure he got in at all? Or maybe a couple plays?

Interesting that out of 19 players in those six years, that 5 of them transferred out.

I believe three would be due to playing time and getting passed by younger teammates, and two were “homesick”.

In the new portal world, this may become much more common throughout college football.

Nice work, thanks for posting. The future is very bright when you look at how well guys like Will Johnson and Mason Graham played. Loveland seems to have come on lately, too. First things first, let's go win it all this year!
