Former Wisconsin QB Danny O'Brien leaving program
After two solid years in the ACC with Maryland, O'Brien's time in Madison wasn't what most of us expected, and after Stave took control of the job the writing was on the wall.
O'Brien has one year of eligibility left. With Wisconsin, O'Brien completed 52-of-86 passes for 523 yards along with three touchdowns and one interception. Best of luck to him.
Rose Bowl Count:
O'Brien: 1
Any Spartan under the age of 47: 0
MSU 20, USC 17.
but I think his point was supposed to be that the youngest players for MSU that year are 47. In reality it would be 25 yrs (since Rose Bowl) + 18 (presumably youngest player on team) = 43 years old
So his math is perfect if he meant Michigan State's Rose Bowl trip on January 1, 1966.
I agree with the sentiment, but come on.
I actually went to that game, I was stationed in So. Cal and had some friends come out to visit so we went to two bowl games that year, the Rose and the Holiday down in San Diego, where Iowa beat Wyoming. Two good games where Big Ten teams won.
Iowa had to come from behind to win, with the final being 20 - 19.
Good fun.
or does he seem to shrink from challenges/competition? Didn't he leave MD for the same reason - being buried on the depth chart?
Sucks for him to start over yet again, but I'd think at some point the competitive fire would take over and he'd try to wrest the spot back from Stave...but maybe Bielema leaving impacted the decision too?
I think he actually left Maryland because Randy Edsall was hired and proceeded to crater the program.
EDIT: Artist's rendering of Randy Edsall, head football coach of the Maryland Terrapins
is a good enough reason to leave the room, let alone a football program.
Looks like he won't turn out to be the next Russell Wilson then huh?
followed by the obligatory response that he is not coming here to backup Gardner.
Maybe he'll transfer to Penn State to play for his dad.
Or does Danny O'Brien look like he's taking advice from the Forciers?
This is basically OT since we never play Wisconsin anymore. /s
As the pressure and money get bigger, I think we are going to see even more transfers due to coaches letting kids who don't quite have enough talent. know they probably aren't going to play very much.
