Former Michigan QB, Ren Hefley, sets FCS record on TDs thrown in a game

Everyone's been talking about all the former Michigan QBs who are starting for other teams this year (Peters, McCaffrey, Milton), but it turns out there's one more QB who is starting - Ren Hefley. Hefley, who was a walk-on in 2019 and 2020, transferred to Presbyterian College this offseason and led them to a 84-43 win today over St. Andrews. Along the way he set a FCS record in TDs thrown as he threw 10 TDs, and finished the day 38/50 for 538 yards. Congrats to him!

Sorry, if I knew you were posting, I wouldn't have said a thing. I absolutely loved reading this and am glad others have noticed it. What a day for the young man. Just in case my thread gets deleted, let me also add here that he was an Academic All B1G for us last year. Must have been a great student!

Welp, my thread disappeared anyway.

Here's the link to the ESPN front page article (which still incorrectly refers to them as the "Blue Horse" instead of the "Blue Hose" in reference to historic Scottish Presbyterian legwear).

And here's the link to the game recap that hilariously ended up on Michigan's 50–3 victory over Houston, September 6, 2003.

Finally, here's the link to his page at mgoblue. He was Academic All B1G in 2020!!

Wow the FCS has quite variance in scheduling. You have teams playing and in some cases, beating FBS teams. Then you have teams playing NAIA schools

Fantastic news! Very happy for Ren! Always glad to see former Wolverines achieve success even if they can't do it here.  Only regret is that as a walk-on that first had to earn his academic keep into Michigan before even having a shot at making the team, that he did not leave with his degree in case football doesn't work out.

On another note, perhaps a record-setting former Michigan QB is a good omen for the rest of season.  We can only hope so.

This is yet another example of kids wanting to play in a game.  Play in what ever level they can, rather than hold a clipboard at an elite level.

When I coached kids baseball, there were a number of travel ball coaches that mocked the rec ball players (and the league) seaming unaware that there were many levels of talent in the higher up leagues.  Meanwhile, the rec kids and parents are having fun.

But, I digress… congrats Ren!! ?
