Forcier

Submitted by MGoMike on

I just looked at the photos posted on qbforce.com of the Forcier visit to the Big House. (http://www.qbforce.com/tate/pics/commit/vc_page1.htm). I don't know if its the way the pics were taken, but he looks really skinny, especially his arms. How does he have the arm strength to throw downfield?? If Forcier really is as good as he is hyped to be now, it will be interesting to see what happens after the Barwis effect kicks in.

He doesn't have Henne's huge triceps, but if you remember, Mallet didn't either.

Arm bulk means less than you think. Proper release and control are much more important than a huge bulky arm.

Guys like Verlander and Pedro Martinez have (or in their prime - had) strong arms without have bulky builds.  Its mechanics and core body strength more than arms size.

Additionally, the belief among baseball players during the steroid era was that arm strength as defined by the ability throw a ball at a high velocity is negatively impacted by steroid use.  The belief was that additional muscle mass reduces flexibility and limits "arm strength".

Just how quickly can a person get their arm moving in such a short motion.  Proper throwing technique is from just behind the ear and is released prior to seeing hand with periphea vision. So with most things in sport, much of the strength of the throw comes from technique and proper "shift of power" not unlike using the body when hitting a golf ball. IOW, generate as much speed as possible with as limited amount of movement as possible.

OMG Tate Forcier looks ambiguously thin in a photograph?!?! Let's speculate over his arm strength!

You might want to remember that Beaver currently is listed at like 190, your concern should be directed at him.

Maybe we should be recruiting the guy with the big guns and muscle shirt in the seond picture down on the left.  "Obviously" he has a cannon attached to his shoulder.  I'd be more worried with Tate's inability to break in a baseball hat than the circumference of his arms.

If we're gonna make assumptions about the kid based on impressions from a few crappy pictures, I'm gonna have to assume he's a douchebag. Don't get me wrong, I'll say good luck to him and I hope he comes to Michigan to become a destroyer of worlds, and then one day stands at a podium accepting the Heisman after seconds earlier, slapping Tim Tebow in the face. But when I see a teenager with that sort of crumbcatcher, all the while wearing a hat like he is, I immediately think "giant bag of douche". That said, welcome to Michigan, bro.

"He doesn't have Henne's huge triceps, but if you remember, Mallet didn't either."

Well, duh. If he did, said triceps would be adorned by mysterious Tiger tattoos.
