First and 17 : Episode 1 (Da'Shawn Hand)

Submitted by farside286 on

So I saw this in the comments of another thread and this deserves it's own thread.

Washington Post's first episode tracking #1 recruit Da'Shawn Hand came out and it's roughly 7-8 minutes long.  Prescott Burgess makes an appearance and they show some plays from Woodbridge HS first scrimmage.  Nothing stands out like Jabrill Pepper's scrimmage through.

Impressions:

1. If you told me Hand was 100 years old, I'd believe it. Seems like a crazy mature young man.

2. That new coach he has seems like a pretty good dude.

3. I would love to see how Greg Mattison might help Mr. Hand.

He ran for a touchdown? So you're telling me we might have the top two defensive players in the country coming here and also fighting for offensive touches? I kid about Hand but it is nice to know he has that kind of athleticism.

I wouldnt say Michigan is the perfect fit for Hand, because his style of play fits well with Hoke/Mattison's program... but because it sounds like his passion for academics (specifically engineering) and being surrounded by good people is on the top of his list. I would love to see Hand in maize & blue and hope he can see kids in his class (ex: Peppers) believe in the same things he does.

I had a similar impression to others when I saw this - given this insight, Hand would be a pretty good cultural fit for Michigan under Hoke. He really seems to want both the quality academic and athletic experience, so I would like to think that we're in this.

Thanks for sharing this! I was wondering when it would come out - there was a thread about it a while ago.

But why is no one else shocked by the revelation that he has an UM alum coach. Ive heard that a million times about Parrker but never about Hand. I'm not the biggest follower of recruits but it seems to me that it would be more well known. Especially given the Parrker example.
