Favorite Michigan recruting class

Submitted by mbee1 on
Which recruiting class was your favorite, either in terms of the recruiting process or how they turned out? Personally, the class I enjoyed following during the recruiting process was the 1998 class. Landed a top QB (Henson) and lots of other battles for big-time players that UM came out on top for (Walker, Terrell, Fargas). The offensive talent in that class was outstanding. The problem with this class and others leading into the 2000's was a lack of defensive star power. Lots of solid players (Foote, Hobson, June) but nobody that ever could dominate a game.

Good question. I haven't been following recruiting for very long, but I think looking back the 2003 class was pretty great. Woodley, Crable, Burgess, Leon Hall, and oh yeah... Jake Long. Pretty damn good haul. Doesn't hurt that ryan mundy and brandent englemon were also in that class (both unranked by scout and eventual starters on defense). 2005 was also pretty good too since we got Zoltan the destroyer (among others).

It may be because that was the first year that I really started following our recruiting at a quasi-stalkerish level but I will always remember those days of my freshman year at UofM leading up to signing day. So exciting! I will always feel somewhat attached to that class more than any other. Also: McGuffie hype at an all time high, his subsequent waffling on signing day between us and Cal, and also Elliot Mealer's story.

I really really like last year's class. It just seems to be a great core of kids that have good character, some personality and a little swagger that has been missing in A2 for a time. I know that is a cheap answer but its an honest one. I'm very excited about what these kids can do.

1. I believe DG is gonna be a great QB here 2. The 3 year wait for Marvin Robinson is finally over 3. I really like our secondary in this class. If we finish with Dorsey or Parker, it will be one of our best secondaries in years. 4. I know I'm taking Tom Lemming's words on this, but I think that this is going to be an important class in RR turning things around here.

I think this years class will be great for a number of reasons. I think it will be the class that solidifies Michigan's return to glory. There is some big time talent coming in (Gardner, MRob, Cullen Christian) and some under the radar guys who are going to make some noise. The only thing I think we are missing is to have someone make a depth chart of our incoming class../snark

I would roll with the 2001 class. Ernest Shazor, Lawrence Reid, Pierre Woods, Patrick Massey, Adam Stenavich, Tim Massaquoi, Marcus Curry. Not to mention Marlin Jackson and Braylon Edwards. 9 quality starters from one class is not bad at all. There is also the 1995 class that featured Aaron Shea, Tai Streets, James Hall, Rob Renes, Clarence Williams. Oh and these two other guys some of you may have heard of in Charles Woodson and Tom Brady.

...I am hoping that either last year or this year turns out to be that class. As for beating USC in the Rose Bowl, though, I have a feeling that it might be a long time before we see USC in the Rose Bowl again. The right combination of Kiffin and probation could be enough to ensure that the Big Ten team doesn't play a de facto road game in the Rose Bowl for a long time.

Then the Fab Five. The excitement was insane even before they started playing. In football...I would have to go with 1995. Charles Woodson, Tom Brady, Tai Streets along with solid players James Hall, Aaron Shea, Clarence Williams, etc. Hell, Woodson and Brady will be Hall of Famers...and of course the national championship.

Growing up in Maumee, Ohio, and playing football. I had an oppurtunity to play against Mr. Woodson. I graduated in 1994 and had a Counsin who graduated with Charles at Fremont Ross. I think, just the shear thrill of meeting Charles at her Graduation party and having the oppurtunity to talk with him, has to make his class the most fun for me to follow. SO I would say the class of 1995 would be my favorite by far.

That would be correct, My Cousin did in fact graduate from Fremont Ross HS in 1995 the same year as Charles Woodson. I am just trying to figure out why I am explaining myself to you. I owe you nothing rather you believe me or not, I could care less. The question was propsed and I answered in my own words. If you did not like my post then don't read it. It is simple. As for my proper use of commas, who cares.
