We can put it up for the men's hockey and basketball teams too!

Maybe no one wants to hear this right now, but it took an amazing run by the team just to get into this position. They have nothing to hang their heads about. That's sports, and that's life.

That team deserves a hell of a lot of credit for getting to today, but it sure sucks going down that way. How a ref can blow a whistle thinking the puck is covered when the goalie is spinning around looking everywhere for the puck is beyond me. Unbelievable...

2nd fucking time this has happened. I thought ND in 08 was bad, but this is probably the most upset I've ever been besides when my grandpa died. This pisses me off more than our 6 loses in a row.

ND 08 hurt so much more. We were the 1 seed. We were the best team in the country. We had the Hobey winner. Billy was solid. We torched Niagara and Clarkson.

This was a good team, sure. They made a terrific run and fought their asses off. It was a shitty way to end it, sure. But really, we shouldn't have even been here. So for the first time I can remember watching Michigan play hockey, I'm surprisingly okay with it.

Next year will be great.

That's a crock of shit if I've ever seen one. Running the tables in the CCHA tournament, the toughest conference tournament in college hockey, doesn't qualify a team as deserving to you? Michigan has been playing the best hockey in the country over the last 6 games, including last night. They were poised to win another National Championship but got completely and utterly fucked by the officiating crew. I don't quite understand how you can say they didn't deserve to be there...

They left it all on the ice. If not for the zebras they would have won. They should be proud. I feel bad for them, but I certainly do not see this as a disappointing season for hockey(as I do for football and basketball).

Tonight's game sucked because we had so many chances to win (and should have won if it weren't for ANOTHER untimely whistle) but let's take a step back for a second: 3 weeks ago, Michigan was in 7th place in the CCHA, their starting goalie was injured, and there was a slim (if any) chance for us to make the NCAA tourney.

In the last 3 weeks, we've been able to watch a phenomenal story develop. My girlfriend flipped the channel to "Rudy" today; I told her that we've been watching a story that blows that out of the water.

We all need to take a step back and appreciate what Hunwick and this team accomplished over the last 3 weeks. The story that starts with a team in the bottom half of the CCHA working their way through LSSU, arch-rival MSU (on the road), #1 Miami, and then winning the CCHA championship behind a walkon goalie is unmatched.

At least we know this loss wasn't the fault of any Michigan Hating Deity. It was pure, unadulterated, human error.

Seriously. Amazing performance by the hockey team over the last month. They were robbed, which is why this is the ultimate dong punch to cap the year of the dong punch.

The epic rant by a MSU sports talk radio host after the Spartans choked against Brady Quinn & co. in 06. I've been pretty upset after sporting events in my day but nothing quite like that. His co-host trying to calm him down also adds to the humor. It made me feel a little better after tonight's game at least.

Is because I fully believe the hockey team (and all of the rest of Michigan's sports teams) will have a chip on their shoulder from this and train as hard as fucking possible and just come out and destroy everyone else next year.

punch.

Watched the game with a friend who is a Miami alum/fan.

He couldn't / wouldn't even rub it in because he knew it was wrong.

DAMN. If it were DC or St. Louis, a slight bit less of a dong punch, but it was fricking Detroit, and it was Hunwick and it was the last 10 games and ARRRGHHHH!

As much as this loss sucked, which was a lot, that's what makes it all that much sweeter when you do win. The run the boys went on was unbelievable, all with a walk-on goalie playing out of his mind. Barring any unforseen departures, this team should be back next year mostly in tact and poised to go on another run. It'll be interesting to see how the goalie rotation will play out next season between Hunwick and Hogan.

I'd still rather be a Michigan Wolverine with an (undeservedly) losing hockey team than a Miami Redhawk with an (undeservedly) winning hockey team.

Go Blue, and for the love of god bring on 2010.

Fucked by the refs: if they were going to be so quick with the whistle, why didn't they blow the whistle on Miami's second "goal?" If it's possession in one case, it's possession in the other; if it's a "lost puck" in one case, it's a "lost puck" in the other.

Either way, Michigan got fucked again. And that's not even counting how they tried to help Miami put it away in the first period by keeping Michigan in the penalty box. I guess it's a fitting end to one of the most bullshit years in Michigan sports history.

I can't wait for football season. It has to turn around. At any rate, I don't think it can possibly get worse than it was this year in the "big three" sports. Hopefully, next season is payback time.
