Ever Imagine Michigan in Blue playing against OSU in Red?
Have you ever envisioned The Game this way? With the Wolverines wearing the home blues and the damn Buckeyes wearing their scarlet rags?
Turns out that Pete Carroll is planning on throwing the reds on his boys this weekend against UCLA, even though they are the away team. And at what price?
Turns out it'll cost 'em one timeout per half. Read the article here:

If they end up losing that game (yeah right) because they don't have enough timeouts at the end I am going to keel over from laughter.

I think it would look kinda neat but if it happens i hope our qb isnt color blind.
they alternate colors for color blind players so they can tell the difference between teams.

unless UCLA agreed to drop a timeout as well, or at least agrees to forfeit one timeout per half next year when they are the road team wearing home jerseys.

what a stupid rule. as long as you can tell the difference, who cares if both are in home uniforms. this is standard in soccer

That rule came up in the maize jersey discussion a while back. It is quite stupid, and if UCLA agrees to USC wearing the home red, I don't see why the timeout is penalized.

Back when both teams played home games at the LA Coliseum (over 20 years ago), they always used to play this game with both home jerseys on. I don't actually remember this because I was too young, but I know Uni Watch mentioned it in an article a while ago (I'm just too lazy to look it up).
EDIT: Or I could actually RTFA and see that it mentions it.

I was just watching the 1981 USC vs. UCLA game on ESPN Classic and wondering why they were both wearing home jerseys.

What about how LSU always wears their away jerseys, they don't get penalized for that?
December 2nd, 2008 at 11:42 AM ^
Home team has the choice, I believe.
December 2nd, 2008 at 1:50 PM ^
Yeah, I'd been wondering about that.

I don't think it's just the home team's choice. I remember reading about how LSU had to apply for a waiver from the NCAA.

How about a couple years ago when Mike Shanahan took the Broncos to San Diego and ONLY brought their white jerseys? Usually the home team gets to choose, but that way San Diego had to wear dark jerseys in the hot weather.
I think Denver got a pretty heavy fine for that.

Pete Carroll will likely not have to actually give up the time-outs. The Pac-Ten is petitioning the NCAA to drop the penalty since the Pac Ten is cool with it and Neuheisel said he's cool with it too. Like wile_e8 said, this used to be common practice in this rivalry, and both coaches want to bring it back. Expect CPC to have all 6 TO's on Saturday.
EDIT: Source here is my boss who is a USC grad and big football booster. He may have bought Reggie Bush's mom a house or something, but he's pretty connected.

stupid rule

I for one would love to see Red vs Blue.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:38 PM ^
and red in the game would be great.

I'm not sure if you guys heard or not, but Rick Neuheisel said that if Pete Carroll has to give up a time out each half that he'll just call a TO at the very beginning of each half to keep it fair.

What's the deal with the sportsmanship?
