Evans leaves with class

This is how you leave. Even if it's all b.s., at least he kept it civil link
"Me and coach Rod are on good terms," linebacker Marell Evans told the Free Press tonight. "It was more than playing time or academics or anything like that. It was a lot of things. Coach Rod is a great coach and I wish him plenty of success. I wanted to finish my career a different way."

So it looks like this makes Evans officially gone. Good luck to the young man wherever he goes (unless he plays a game against us). The article says that Helmuth also asked to transfer, so I guess instead of the MAY transfer, it is likely officially transferring. On a positive note, this would give us more scholarships to use for this next class (hopefully on defense). Although it may be a blow to the depth chart.

Wherever he ends up good luck to him. I wish he would have stayed, but I totally understand wanting to leave when a whole new program is in place and you are not a starter.

losing Helmuth and Evans just means our pool of warm bodies is slightly smaller. we still have a collection of veteran, versatile big guys who aren't really pushing the starters -- Ferrara, Patterson, Banks, Watson, etc. if injuries force us to rely heavily on these guys, we're screwed -- no matter if there's 4, 10, 16, or 20 of them. i don't even want to think about 2010 post-Graham. best of luck to Evans, though. classy way to exit.

I don't know if Paskorz or Wilkins will end up in that position. Some believe one (or both) will bulk up and play down on the line somewhere. I don't know myself. With the staff's style of recruiting they seem to recruit a lot of players and let the positions work themselves out later.

When guys leave for football reasons and keep their comments positive (or non-negative), all we should do is say thanks for time they spent here. What type of statement does it make about Wermers that Mallett departed more gracefully?

Wermers was a nobody and that is why he said something to feel like he had an impact. These two guys were good guys that were at least trying to compete for a position. Chambers leaving definitely had to have something to do with Helmuth's decision because they were good friends. The Wermers stuff is just too much, this kid had no chance playing. He was a tub of goo that seriously would challenge Jaba the Weiss in a mayonaise eating contest. Evans and Helmuth good luck!

of respect for these guys. They competed for a position and the writing was on the wall so they transferred. There was no sour grapes on their part and have left with class instead of throughing stines on the way out. Good luck to both of these young men, I wish them well.
