ESPN: Michigan's X-Factor Video (Cam Gordon)

Submitted by Noleverine on

Found this video on ESPN and thought people might find it interesting.  Brian Bennett believes Cam Gordon can become a playmaker at linebacker.  I hope he's right and the position switch will be beneficial to him and the team.  I always thought he would be a better linebacker than DB, especially with his ability to lay the wood.  Now he just needs to start wrapping up.

Granted, Bennett's not very well-spoked (should stick to writing) but an interesting segment nonetheless.  I personally love how he says he can "be a difference maker if he upgrades and elevates his game."  Srsly?  And I can be president if I'm elected.

ESPN.com won't let me embed, so here's the link: http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/28870/video-michigans-x-factor

I'll be interested to see how heavy Cam Gordon is by the fall.  I'm not sure he can start if he's only 210-ish lbs., but we'll see...

I've read reports as of June that he is right around 220.  I hope he can be effective at ~225 as a linebacker in the Big Ten and the coaches obviously see something in him to make the believe he can succeed as a LB.  It would be refreshing to see a great season by our LB core for a change.

If he's going to be playing SAM, then I think he should get up to 230-235.  Playing at 220-225 might be okay this season because you don't want him just to get fat, but as his body matures, I think he should get heavier than that.  He's 6'3", so 220 isn't all that big.

That was an infuriating play.

If you take away that 95-yarder, Rudolph averaged 8.6 yards a catch.

For comparison's sake, Kevin Koger - who's not a superstar - averaged 14.2 on the year, and that didn't include any long catches to skew the average.

From watching Rudolph against us, I just wasn't very impressesd.  He seemed like a big guy who could run kinda fast(for someone his size) in a straight line.  Yes it's a tough match-up, but he seemed over hyped for what he could do.

There was no pressure on this play...he had all day...our secondary just wasn't good enough to cover that long...that said...never let a guy behind you...come on.

Cam is not going to be done covering TEs at LB.

No, he's not done covering linebackers, but at least he shouldn't be caught flat-footed as the last line of defense.  If he's covering a TE that deep on the field from his LB position, then he'll already be turned and in chase mode...and hopefully a better safety will be there to help him track the guy down.

The only reason I watched this is because I thought it would include highlight videos and at least get me pumped for the season.  I didn't know it was just going to be that guy sitting in his mom's basement talking to himself.

Maybe he could work on the background a bit?  Watching the lower half of a Montmoriilon poster on an otherwise blank wall is pretty distracting.  If you are going to put your home videos on espn.com make it look like you made at least a minimal effort.
