Guy had mad skills. Some part of me is still waiting for Drew to live up to his potential. Guy was a legend before he ever hit campus. He was our last QB who had that swagger and new he was better than the other team skill wise.

I hope Denard brings that this year.

Interesting how people were or still are so bitter that Henson left early to become a big money prospect for the most prestigious organization in American sports, yet everyone was so understanding of Darius Morris leaving a program desperately trying to grow and for ... what? For a totally uncertain chance at being a late first-round pick in a league that he should have known may lose an entire season.

Many Michigan fans were dicks to Henson and polite to Morris because they live and die with the football program while refusing to emotionally invest in the basketball program. I blelive that is the main difference and it's unfortunate.

At least Drew left a program that had been healthy for years and for pastures that everyone can agree were very green. That's a lot more than Darius Morris got the fuck off OUR court for and yet he was made into a pariah. The double standard there is nuts.

There are a few differences here.  First, Henson's family didn't need the money; Morris and his family do.  Secondly, Henson had a chance to lead the team to a National Championship if he had stayed; Michigan is still working on making the Sweet Sixteen.  Third, Morris didn't really blindside Michigan when he left; that's how things are done in basketball in this era.

Last but not least, Henson proved to be just another player who couldn't hit a major league (or even AAA) curveball.  By the time he got back to football, it was too late.  He blew a chance to be good at football because he took an OSU fan's money.  Henson is a classic case of someone making a bad decision and never fulfilling his potential.

Ultimately, the OSU connection will always separate Henson's situation from that of Morris.

Laughable.

a) You don't know how bad Morris's family needed the money. Seriously, are you those playing racial stereotypes? And Henson's family was not rich; to flatly say they "didn't need" the money is quite presumptious. If it was all about the money, Henson could have also made a lot by declaring for the 2001 NFL Draft (late first/early-second round pick, easily) but he didn't.

b) Michigan basketball is in the midst of a serious fight for sustained respect in this state, one we have been failing at for about 12 years now. Don't act like they had nothing serious at stake. Being universally projected to be better than State (and a top three B1G team) entering the season would have been a HUGE deal to the program, especially if it could make good on the projection. Michigan football was considered to have a good shot at an NC in the preseason just two years later in 2003.

c) Morris declared for the draft saying it was probably just an experiment. Whatever information (or ego boost) he got that made him think it should be more than that was obviously bad, as he fell deep into the dreaded land of no guaranteed contracts and d-league assignments (the second round). Don't forget that Bacari Alexander made a public plea on Twitter for Morris to stay a day or two before he split. I can't help but think the coaching staff was surprised he actually bolted with how much was said by Morris himself about "just gathering information" (especiallly considering his iffy stock).

Finally, what a shock that the founder of a website called the Tin Foil Hat Sports Blog is stating, with confidence, that "the OSU connection" is ultimately what separates Henson's departure. They're doing wonderful things with conspiracy theorists at psychiatric wards these days, Tater. Do the deed. Check in.

If he had stayed he was being projected as a potential Nbr 1 draft pick for the NFL after his senior year. That alone would have doubled what Steinbrenner offered.   Plus, he already had a signing bonus when he was picked out of HS for baseball.  Green was not a problem for him.

I remember pulling my hair out at times because of this defense.  They were so strong in every single home game but got torched in every single road game.

I feel so greedy looking back now.  At the time, I was kind of annoyed that we only won this game by 3 points.  Auburn played in the SEC title game but we were, I believe, a 2 touchdown favorite.  Eventually I just said, "Screw it.  We just beat another SEC team and that's all that matters."

That is what always drove me nuts about this era - the teams were very talented, but never quite seemed to live up to the expectations. What I wouldn't give to be bummed out by underachieving 9 and 10 win seasons again. Will definitely appreciate it more when we get back to that. Hopefully without the underachieving this time around.

2000 was perhaps the poorest pass rushing team I have ever seen at Michigan. The front four was young and simply not that talented (I think they overachieved with their high sack totals the following two seasons). Everyone blasted the secondary that year but they never had a chance.

It's a shame because that was also the best Michigan offense I have ever seen.

compared Terrell to Randy Moss...If only. Nice to see a balanced attack on offense. Always wonder how good we would have been if Henson had played his senior season vs. playing baseball full time.
