Dropping like flies....
Jason Kates is no longer on the team. That's not a huge deal...if we get some DT commitments. But we're getting pretty thin at DT (only Martin and Sagesse return next year, unless you count position switchers like Criswell and maybe Helmuth).
Schilling hurt his knee and might miss Saturday's game.

Who is Kates? RS freshman, older prospect that never got PT, etc?

**** Prospect who, from what I read, has had notable weight issues throughout his career. It's somewhat understandable that such a player would clash with Barwis and RR.

Kates was a 4-star DT from Harrisburg, PA. He was very fat and never played. This is the end of his redshirt sophomore year, so if he transfers to another FBS program, he'll only have one year of eligibility left.

4 star to Rivals and 2 to Scout; point Scout.

Jason Kates, we hardly knew ye.
Rod also said he hopes to have McGuffie on Saturday. FWIW

Anyt truth to the rumors that Steve Schilling hurt his knee in practice today? If its true, lets hope its not serious.

And it's the lead article on Rivals.

We are having one hell of a week leading up to Sat.

I didn't read anything on Rivals, I just saw a thread about Schilling being injured at practice today on another message board. Thanks, Chitown.

Uhhh...yes. As it clearly says in the post you commented on.
November 19th, 2008 at 4:09 PM ^
that in your original post. I seee it now that you pointed it out. Thanks.

Kates is 6'2 336 pounds....the guy has had weight issues and hes burried on our depth chart well behind even the young guys. Not a big loss....Schillings knee shouldnt be too serious if he might be able to go saturday. Hopefully mcguff will come back from the funeral and be revived and have a man-day on the bucks! Everyone is sipping on estrogen slushies or something this week! Everybody needs to chill, were GOING to lose some more players so lets just deal with it and hopefully pull a victory out of our asses this weekend!

It is sort of strange that Rodriguez said that he expects McGuffie to play.

We certainly won't have an issue with a lack of open scholarships for the next couple years. One positive we can take from this.

Didn't want to make an individual thread out of this because I haven't confirmed it, but I heard Rueben Randle cut down his list to 3 teams and somehow Michigan is one of them. I still think he is LSU bound though.

Bo lost some huge percentage of guys off of the team when he first arrived.
RR retained them initially, but now more are quitting.
Is the difference in timing all that big? I say NO, but I'm open to debate on that point.
Nobody ever accused Saint Bo of a lack of family values.
BTW, I bet Jason Forcier wishes he didn't quit on Michigan right about now. I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I wish some of these kids would just hang in there and display a little bit more perseverence. Don't they realize how GREAT this is all going to be in the very near future???

define "very near"

Saturday!

did not quit on Michigan. He wanted to play so he left when it became clear that he was going to be stuck behind Mallett and maybe even Threet under Lloyd who did not emphasize Jason's skill set.
He has done nothing but praise UM and his time here, and helped us land his brother for next year.
Let's give this quitter stuff a rest and realize that the NCAA makes it hard for guys to transfer and some of those who do, do it for reasons other than being "quitters."
