Don't have DD but we have CC

Submitted by The Impaler on

I know we were all disappointed by the fact that Dorsey was not accepted by UM Admissions recently, but let's not forget that we have another blue chip cornerback coming in this fall in Cullen Christian.  He does not appear to have the same freak athleticism that Dorsey had, but he may be able to make up for that with good technique.  He reminds me a lot of Warren when he came in his freshman year (not lightning speed, but great fundamentals).  He may not start the first game, but I could see him working opposite of Woolfolk for the majority of the year.  Thoughts?

Yeah, this is what bothered me the most about the reporting when we lost DD. If I'm not mistaken, Cullen Christian was rated higher by both Rivals and Scout compared to DD. I would have loved to have them both, but Christian is no slump either. I'm actually hoping that T.J. Floyd has improved as much as the reports of him in the Spring say he has. That way we have some viable backups in Turner and Christian should anything happen to Woolfolk/Floyd.

I expect Cullen to be a very good player eventually.....I just think most people believed Dorsey could be an instant impact player at a position of extreme need. It would be nice if CC could redshirt, but I imagine that he will play sporadically throughout the year.

CC is actually more "college-ready" than DD, especially at corner.  With DD's flat-out human missile speed he might have a touch more upside, but for this year, there was a good chance CC would start even if Demar wasn't struck down by Angry Academically Marginal Michigan Recruit Eligibility Hating God.

I think ideally Floyd and Woolfolk are the starters, with Christian serving as a backup and preventing a repeat of the defensive fiasco of 09. I don't claim to be a recruiting guru, but he seems like he'll probably get some playing time given the low depth at that position, but if things go the way we'd like will not be a starter until next season.

We are all amazing golfers with amazing salaries, legendary high school sports careers and baller houses. We don't have DD... Our model wife does

Cullen Christian was the 15th-ranked overall recruit in the country by scout, and the 99th-ranked overall by rivals.  He will be the starter opposite Woolfolk by the end of the year.

But I think he will be a solid 3rd CB this year, coming in to cover a third receiver or to play in nickle packages.  He may also split time with Floyd for situational purposes and be much better depth then we had last year.

Aquiring DD was so crucial because it would have allowed us to possibly redshirt CC. Now without Demar, Cullen is going to have to play and probably quite a bit seeing how the coaches are considering moving Turner over to Safety.

It's unfortunate because we needed the depth, but it's not going to destroy our secondary because Cullen Christian was a highly touted recruit. I am just overall nervous for the entire defensive unit this year. I think another year in the same system should help but I really worry about them.

Demar and Cullen play different positions. It would have NOTHING to do with Cullen redshirting. Cullen is a true corner and Demar was going to be a safety all the way. I agree with the D Warren comment though. I can't wait to see what Cullen can do this fall though.

RR said on signing day that they would start Demar at corner this year, and that he would eventually learn the back end of the defense.  So for this year, at least, the two would have been competing for reps at the same position.

I don't think there were many scenarios that would have allowed for a CC redshirt, regardless of Demar's status.

Cullen will walk into fall camp and be backing up both Woolfolk and Floyd. I'm wondering if RR has barwis trying to trim down Turner a little bit since he came into Michigan last fall as the largest corner ever and continued that by turning the little flab into LB muscle. We have to have Turner at corner even though he may end up at another position. If an injury occurs(knock on wood that it doesn't) Cullen could be shoved into the lineup earlier than we want. We have a pretty good streak going with freshman corners though.

I defer to Brian on this one... and pretty much anything else in life:

"Projection: Least outlandish "I will start from day one" semi-prediction in a long time. He might not start but given his advanced understanding of zones—which Michigan is set to play a ton of—and physical talent the chance of a redshirt is zero. He will be on the two-deep as soon as he hits campus and should press JT Floyd and Justin Turner in the battle to start opposite Woolfolk. I think he's at least on even footing with them even as a true freshman."

Seems like we have forgot about him.once he gets his speed back he could be that guy we recuited him to be a lockdown corner.he has put on that barwis weight and he is learning how to do some things over.once he gets it back you will have a supreme secondary!!!
