Don't Get Your Hopes Up But Tyler Friday Has Delayed His Commitment Announcement

Submitted by Navy Wolverine on

SIAP but I was under the impression that Tyler Friday (4* DT/DE from NJ) was planning to release his commitment video today but hadn't heard anything. After a little digging, I learned that he has delayed his decision for at least a couple of weeks. This will probably make OSU fans a little nervous but the recruiting writers so far aren't wavering from their OSU Crystal Balls. Probably nothing to see here but maybe there is a window of opportunity to flip him to the good guys.

I can see how my comments my be viewed as being a "downer", but I am simply a realist.  Looking at the details as "black and white" is the only way I can stay sane with Michigan Football.  OSU's class is amazing and they look to be closing with 2-3 high 4 star players.  We are closing with margianl 3 star players and perhaps losing out on Friday and Otis Reece.  That helps temper my expectations on the game next year in Columbus.  Call it a character flaw, but i have to view things this way or I'll lose my crap.

WSU also lost their ace recruiter, Roy Manning, to UCLA.

I'm sure it is being pointed out to Partridge that their last DC left voluntarily to become a position coach. It's not a great stepping stone job. It's a tough place to recruit to as well. Could be a risky move for him.

If true, it also speaks very well of Don Brown's reputation. I know we all love Partridge, but his qualifications to be a Power 5 DC are paper thin. Two years as a college assistant coaching just SAM/vipers. His recruiting is great, but DC is a critical coaching position, not where you stick an ace recruiter. But two years working under Don Brown must look pretty good on a resume.

I know we aren't supposed to criticize 17 year old kids but this seems to be a common occurrence where a recruit changes his mind because his recruiter takes another job. That seems rather fickle and narrow minded, even for a teenager, doesn't it? Assistant coaches change jobs all the time. I'd guess half the coaching staffs at both schools won't be around by the time this recruiting class graduates.

Kids get on the team for even one season, and they know all their teammates, have friends, support, know the other coaches, and really get into the team culture and spirit. Having your position coach leave after even one season is a big difference from having the face of the program (to you) leave before you even get there.

Just trying to give  some 17 year old perspective.

OSU coaches visted him today. If one is announching their commitment the same day as a coaches visit, it likely means they'll commit to that coaches' school. Still think he goes OSU, but it helps that the decision is delayed.

Need to have Partridge do everything he can to get him to come here. He'll be in the rotation player at Michigan like Solomon was this year. At OSU he probably won't see many minutes this year.

IIIIIIIIIIdk about that. Maybe. But he's not enrolling early, and he's only listed at about 265 right now. If you're trying to play 3T in the Big Ten at under 280 pounds you're gonna get washed a lot. He's got to get to 285/290 to really contribute, I think. He's got guys in front of him too. I think he would play very early and often in his career, but would he really pass Dwumfour, Jeter, or Marshall for 3T reps next year?

Is that it appears we have decided that Friday is going to do what he's going to do.

I know Sam said Mattison is not retiring, but I have heard something much different, and we have max 2 more years of his services.

JH and Enos were in Kansas to see a wisc commit

Dudek on west coast to visit Jarrett Patterson and in Florida today to see Petit-frere

Pep making his rounds in the D

Mattison in Germany

I mean when coach wants someone, he becomes that jack hammer, he pulls out all the stops. I know he got killed for sleeping over the kicker house, and climbing trees, but we got both those kids.  He also went hard for Ambry and Solomon.

If we see D Brown and coach get in front of Friday this week or next than maybe there is hope, but the facts seem to suggest we have moved on and he gone.
