Sweet but no surprise. Glad he's Michigan.

From the graphic during yesterday's game, this 7th FOTW ties Hunter with Trey Burke in UM history.

I think they should call it the Hunter Dickinson of the week award - you know, for the weeks when he is not playing and someone else has a chance to to be recognized as someone who played closest to the standard set by Hunter Dickinson for a week.

Sullinger won the award 12 times, but yeah, Dickinson is getting there. Theoretically, if the Big 10 gave the award all the way through the end of the NCAA tournament, Dickinson could surpass Sullinger by one week.

I don’t recall Sullinger missing over three weeks for a covid break and having multiple other additional weeks during the season where his team did not compete. Besides, could you think of a worse time to try to give osu credit for something in basketball? In my opinion, it is always out of fashion to speak favorably of buckeye accomplishments on MGoBlog.

One of the weirdest things I saw this weekend that just popped back into my head (can't remember where I saw it) was people complaining about Dickinson being big and that's why he's good. As in, he's not actually a good basketball player, he's just 6 inches taller than Liddell. Can stand under the basket, catch the ball above his head, and win. As though it's unwarranted success or something.
That person, whoever it was, is a moron.
Made me chuckle. Anyways, onward!

OSU football team can beat us because they are faster and stronger. Big deal. Lets go walk on vs walk on and see who is the better team (please?)

I think (using that word generously because I don't think whoever wrote that originally thinks) they are saying Dickinson is taller through no real act of his own. Getting faster or jumping higher can be achieved by training. Growing to be 7'1" is random chance. That's my most generous read of it.
Regardless, hard to be coordinated and get your butt up and down the court at that size. Plus the soft touch around the rim isn't genetics.

Well said, I don't care how tall you are, playing the rim is a high skillset and Hunter shows a lot of polish in that regard.

Any of you remember Jon Antonines? 7’1” of uncoordination. All that growth talent didn’t help.

I played HS basketball with a guy who was 6'10"
I'm 6'3" and would get picked ahead of him in pick up from time to time and guard him if we didn't have another one of our PFs in our 5. Giant and could move me around a bit, but was a clunk and basically only had 1 move which I will call the rollercoaster. Hands up and don't let anyone touch the ball.

I remember him when he was Jon Antonides.

"Getting Faster or Jumping Higher can be achieved by training". Seriously? I'm 5'10". If I worked out as hard as Mike Smith, I could be as agile, quick and shoot as well? The only difference is that I am lazy? Sorry. I'm not buying it.

Hey man, I'm right there with you. Rowed all 4 years in college and the day I graduated was the day I became a former athlete and haven't looked back since.

Athletic talent requires a foundation that hard work can build on. Dickinson has that foundation in height, and has other athletic skills as well that he has built on through hard work to be that player he is no and will be even better in the future.

Smh Michael Jordan wasn’t all that. He was just born with elite athleticism. Color me unimpressed

I used to work with a work with a guy 7'6 325 lbs! He actually played for UCLA rode the pine! My buddy played Gus maker with him! Everyone would come over to watch thinking he was going to be amazing....Unfortunately they would all be laughing at him by the end! Ps he couldn't dunk!

I still have a large knot on my calf where I got kicked while playing in Gus Macker 33 years ago

Did he have a twin brother - Lanier twins ??

Everybody who plays high-level college athletics has genetic advantages.

I saw that mentioned on RCMB.
February 23rd, 2021 at 9:29 AM ^
Yeah, that checks out.
February 22nd, 2021 at 4:22 PM ^
Imagine how many he'd have if he didn't have 3 weeks without games!
Assuming Sullinger had more weeks possible to win?
February 22nd, 2021 at 6:47 PM ^
Sullinger won 12 of 16 weeks. Hunter has won 7 of 10 weeks Michigan has played a game. So Sullinger still is leading in percentage of FOTW won, but Hunter will certainly have the opportunity to catch up.
February 22nd, 2021 at 4:38 PM ^
Well deserved. In a couple of week it'll be FOTY!
February 22nd, 2021 at 4:45 PM ^
I hope we get another full year out of him....
February 22nd, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
Tied with Trey Burke (and maybe other people I probably don't care about) for 2nd most all time.
Also, the only other players to have won B1G FOTW are 4 different guys from Purdue. I guess that means they could be pretty good over the next couple of years.
EDIT: Oops, missed that guys from ILL and PU shared FOTW honors in week 1.

Way to go, big fella!
GO BLUE!
Screw Doug Gottleib the Notre Dame thief!

Serious question: Is Dickenson a "one and done" NBA guy or does he stay longer. In my limited NBA knowledge he doesn't fit what the league is looking for. They want 5 shooters on the floor. That's why Andre Drummond has no value.

I haven't been stalking the mock drafts but all I've really seen is Franz (possible first round) and Livers (second round). I'm sure he will submit his name for evaluation.

Absolutely earned. Great work on the glass, and from the ft line last week.
