“Tate is a real good quarterback,” Gardner said this week. “He’s calm, cool and collected. Everything is going crazy and even when he makes mistakes, like everyone does, he comes back and makes big plays.” ********** Gardner said he will let any further quarterback competitions play out when that time comes. “I’m doing my best and working hard now on everything that has to do with being a quarterback, so when that time comes they are going to have to say, ‘We can’t redshirt him,’ ” Gardner commented. “If (a redshirt) comes, it comes, but I’m trying my best to avoid that.”

Yeah, posting entire articles like that is prohibited. If you want to highlight a few lines here and there and post the link, that's okay. But the Freep will be coming after Brian next if they see an entire piece posted here. That's copyright infringement.

Better watch out Andy. Now the freep is gonna get you for putting in to much time into your threads! Then the next thing you know it will have an article about you getting a thread space loan approved by Brian and next you will be suspended after they whine and send in tapes of your interveiw claiming you where out of line!

For this kid to make it to Ann Arbor. Tate's performance and Denard's big play potential have recently been getting me scared that Devin would decommit (you really couldn't blame the kid that much if he did), however I'm actually feeling very comfortable right now that he'll be playing at the Big House next year (for home games.) This is exactly the kid that RichRod wants. Not even talking about his physical talents tailored to RichRod's offense - His attitude, his will to compete and get better fits perfectly into the competitive nature that Coach Rod is trying to build. The best players will play - Bar None. We're gonna have a great team for years to come with guys like Devin, Tate and Denard at the QB position.

with the way Devin has handled the questions with the situation! “I’m just going to go in and if they need me as a freshman, do what I can as a freshman, then take over when my time comes,” Gardner said.

He seems like such a fierce competitor. Every article I have read on him states that he strives not only to get the best out of himself but others around him as well. That type of competitive nature is what a team needs and will only make us better!

Nothing against his abilities or anything, in fact I think he's a total stud of an athlete but I really pray he gets a redshirt. I mean, I don't know why he doesn't want to redshirt. If he doesn't he's looking at partial playing time for 3 years and only 1 starting - it's going to be hard to go from backup to first round draft pick in 1 season. Please just take the redshirt so we can get two full years of nothing but Devin awesomeness. Furthermore, if he comes out and pushes all of them he's going to be cutting into the reps for the guys we've already got and that might also hamper their development. I know, I know, you don't redshirt someone just so other guys can get better but I think we all realize at this point that The Forcier and DRob are pretty good and we shouldn't be freaking out at the thought of them being our #1 and #2 QB's for the next few years. (Although I think once DG gets rolling DRob is going to need to find another position to play).

It'd be great if DG could redshirt and become starter for two years after Tate graduates. But let's not get too greedy as fans. If the kid wants to compete and is good enough to help the team, he should be allowed to play as soon as he's ready. Assuming we continue to attract elite qb talent, our qb situation 5 years out should take care of itself.

I guess a little clarification on my thought is necessary. What I was thinking is that if he's going to be a main contributor then absolutely play him but if all he's going to do is get 50 snaps in mop-up duty I think he'd be better served by taking a redshirt and getting another full year of eligibility.

have a quarterback willing to compete than a guy with a me-first attitude who just wants to be "the man." So if he decommits, so be it. I'll take a Tate Forcier, who writes on facebook: “I can give a damn what Paulus does. If he wants to ruin his career and come here its fine with me cuz hes about to be my backup.” And I'd take him over a Pryor any day of the week. From what it sounds like, Gardener is that type of player and we as Wolverine fans should welcome the competition which has always brought out the best in players. Redshirt? Ideally yes, but RichRod should give the kid a chance to compete next spring. 3 QBs, all equally gifted vying for the starting job? Compared to where we were last year that's a damn good problem to have.

Like I stated in MGoAndys' post yesterday. I don't think you redshirt him just for the sake of redshirting him. I am not saying he is better than what we have now by any means but I am not gonna say he isn't either. We also have another recruit coming in at QB who can redshirt if needed. It is a great position for us to be in compared to this time a year ago. Let's let him get on campus and see what he can do then I'm sure the coaches will make the correct decision. For now I am basking in all of the glory that is the 2009 season!
