David Braun to serve as Interim Head Coach at Northwestern is made official
The Sherrone Moore, Ed Orgeron, and whatever other silly rumors can be put to rest. Northwestern has doubled down and made it official that David Braun, the DC hired from NDSU earlier this year will serve as the team's interim HC.
This was my initial guess for who it would be given he hasn't been around the program point long at all. Talk about an upgrade - his highest position ever held previously was an FCS DC.
In his four years at NDSU he went to three FCS National Championships and won two of them. He's definitely been around a winning culture - hopefully he can carry that over to Northwestern and get the best out of them given the current situation.
Fun fact: In 1921 Braun’s great grandfather founded Braun GmbH, the German consumer products company known for its electric razors.
Who better to get them out of this hairy situation? If he can't, he might be shaving years off of the life of that fan base. #PunFriday. (I'll see myself out)
Well actually, I made that fact up. I've been playing a lot of Malarky lately, so I lie all the time now.
Any relation to Lloyd Braun?
I hope! Cheap gum for everyone!
Well if this coaching gig doesn't work out I'm sure he can fall back on being a computer salesman.
Side-note: Matt McCoy, the actor who plays Lloyd Braun, has a role in Silicon Valley and is absolutely gut-busting hilarious. Probably one of the funniest recurring characters I've ever seen in any show, and that's saying something. He's only in a handful of episodes but absolutely steals every scene he's in. The show is great without him, but its also worth watching just to see the few episodes he's in.
I hate Lloyd Braun!
He's definitely been around a winning culture
This is something Pat Fitzgerald could never claim.
Look, I'm not defending Pat Fitzgerald and he was properly fired. But let's stick to the facts. If "winning culture" is defined as Wins and Losses on the field, Fitzgerald did well, even with the last two terrible seasons. Overall, he had a winning record, which is saying something at Northwestern. His teams went to 10 bowl games. He personally played in two Rose Bowls. This is why he was given way too much latitude up in Evanston.
He personally played in two Rose Bowls.
Not so fast my friend...
He went to one Rose Bowl, after the '95 season (they shared the '96 title, but OSU went that year). But because he'd broken his leg, he did not play in the game.
So he personally played in zero Rose Bowls. That loser.
Thank you for the correction.
It's Northwestern, my guy. They've won six bowl games in their entire history. Five of them came under Fitzgerald.
Maybe he deserved to be fired. But saying he's never been around a winning culture is patently false.
Is it sad that I wasn't sure what sport this post was talking about from the title?
hopefully he can carry that over to Northwestern and get the best out of them given the current situation.
Northwestern has caused enough angst for me to never root for them. Burn it all down. Its only fair with the NCAA findings on Tennessee a BigTen team needs to pay some how.
Thanks for coming to Evanston from North Dakota. Take over and good luck fella. Totally absurd.
Enjoy more purple haze for the "interim" period.
