Dan Patrick on Charlie Weis

Submitted by AMazinBlue on
did anyone catch Dan Patrick's piece on Charlie Weis? This afternoon he broke down the factors of Weis' future. In a nutshell: If ND takes a bowl bid, CW stays. If ND doesn't go bowling, he's GONE for sure. If he goes, there are two candidates, Boise State coach Chris Petersen and Tampa Bay Bucs coach Jon Gruden. Petersen is being considered because of his innovative style and ability to coach more with less than BCS talent. Gruden because he has ties to ND. His dad was an assistant there and apparently Gruden stated in Playboy that he lost his virginity in South Bend. Patrick's main reason for a change according to his source inside the program is ND wants someone that "scares the hell out of Pete Carroll". ND breaks it down to: 'who can we get? And are they better than who we have?' Check out uhnd.com it has some interesting quoates from Gruden.

If their goal really is to "scare the hell out of Pete Carroll" (1) that's a sad goal for a program and (2) I can't imagine that either Gruden or Petersen would do that.

Because ND could offer him more money than he's making at Tampa Bay right now. And maybe because the college game is more exciting.

ND go bowling. I want CW to finish the job of destroying the ND faithful hope of ever becoming relevant in college football. You don't suppose if those two decline...Skip could be on deck?

I was hoping Sailboat Bill would at least interview the guy, but I guess going 13-0 and beating OK in the bowl game wasn't good enough. I think he was Hawkins' OC when Hawkins took the CU job, and the BSU program hasn't fallen off one bit. I think Peterson is a much better fit for either Washington or WSU than ND. His roots are solidly on the west coast, which is something that concerned me a bit wrt Michigan. Having Gruden at ND doesn't scare me a bit, but given the disappointing results of hiring an NFL coach with ND ties, I bet ND goes in another direction whenever they make a move anyhow. I hope Charlie stays.

makes ALOT of sense. I hope he get a chance to be interviewed. The guy has a eye for talent and has great management skills. Washington should atleast bring him to eyeball him.

ND should not go to the bowl. If they do than I will officially think the BCS is rigged. Notre Dame does not deserve to go to a bowl. They have not played well enough. They lost to Syracuse I might add. They lost to Pitt, and BC. I believe anyone with a brain knows that ND does not deserve to go to a bowl.
