The Dak and Dunc Show - DJ Wilson interview

Submitted by Nolongerusingaccount on
First time I listened to the podcast, and it is filled with gold. It is really well put together, and they have great chemistry and have great gift for gab. The interview with DJ Wilson is highly entertaining but also had some interesting content regarding the possibility of transferring. I also downloaded an old podcast with an interview with Caris Levert and that is also fantastic.

It is a good podcast. Fun chemistry between the guys plus some honest moments about the plane crash and what it took to get on the plane the next day. Hope we get a couple more of these.

I can see why after last season being basically stapled to the bench that he'd want to transfer and his relationship with JB would be a little (or a lot) sour.  But after being showcased during this stretch run I can see him viewing himself as a leader going into next season and leaving his mark on the program.

If he left, though, I wouldn't blame him.  Get paid when you can because physical gifts are fleeting.

to the entire podcast right now but I wonder if he gives much, if any, credit to Beilein for his development. Anger and frustration often come right before a confirming breakthrough. In what I did hear of the latest podcast it's clear that he's his own man on his own path.

Yep from a lot of articles on Bamba, playing time is extremely important. Like, who declares for the draft or not is going to play a role. I'm just assuming if DJ goes, it'll leave a huge gaping hole where Bamba would be a perfect fit.

So yeah my opinion sorry

was asked if he was returning to Michigan he said he hoped so. When pressed on the NBA he said he hadn't even thought about that. A day later it's reported he said he was 50-50. I don't know about that.

Do you have links to these articles/statements?  This is the first I've heard that DJ was considering the NBA that seriously, and everything I've read about Bamba is basically "Michigan has a chance, but don't get your hopes up."

Actually Chad Ford is saying he's 50/50. Chris Balas and Sam Webb are both saying him and Wagner are coming back. In other news Chad Ford is bad at his job.

Re Bamba, he's made no such declarations and it has been reported by insiders on the basketball recruiting sites that he couldn't give a rats ass who is already on the team at his position.

That's not entirely accurate.  He said he considered it, because he wasnt playing at all, something like 9 minutes in the last 8 games and only 1 minute in the BTT and none in the NCAAs.  When pressed to give a percentage go/leave he said he didn't want to sit out another year, which implies he didn't get around to really considering it as that made it a non-starter.

Apparently Jaylen Johnson of Louisville slapped a ball out of Moe's hands during warmups when he shooting a free throw.

Moe then went on to own Louisville.

The bit about how Beilein was talking up the UK support before the game but then they didn't really get that extra support during is really interesting because it's not something you'd ever get from a normal interview.

For some reason that interview made me feel he's gone after this year. I feel Wagner is in the same boat.but I hope not; fully weaponized Wagner and Wilson for a whole season would be fun to watch. And could result in more banners as well.

Bunch of chicken littles on this board.

Wagner and Wilson aren't 1st round draft picks. This is one of the deepest drafts in years and after you add all the Europeans who will inevitably be selected the chances either are selcted in the first are basically nil. And please don't cite Chad Ford. No one worth their salt moves someone halfway up their draft board based on one game. Chris Balas and Sam Webb have said multiple times in the past week both are returning next year. They aren't just throwing that out there based on nothing. So please, be smarter people.

Ah yes, because the decision to leave early is always rational and well thought out.  No early enterants have ever made a rash decision, or thought too much of their own game, and slid to the late rounds or undrafted.  Come on.  These are ultra competative athletes who work incredibly hard and usually believe a lot in their own ability.  They are soooo close to achieving that dream of playing in the NBA.  The deeper the run goes in March, the more exposure they'll get, they're play will presumably be better in order to win, and the less they may feel they have to accomplish or learn at the college level.  I can easily see one or both turn pro early.  Wilson is already 21, and Wagner comes from a culture that tends to not prioritize getting that degree when you're trying to become a professional athlete.

That's a cute story, but people that actually cover the team for a living are reporting they have been told both are coming back. The best way to have a professional career in the NBA is to assure yourself that you will be a first round pick, neither are going to be this year. Next year will be a different story. This shouldn't even be a discussion right now. Let's be smarter about this please.

They said the podcast will continue even after this run ends - interesting seeing that Dak will be transfering.

Everyone should consider rating/commenting on iTunes as it really helps promote the podcast. They were sports Top 10 podcas tlast week but this week fell out of the Top 10.

The segment on free throws at home vs. road was super interesting too. I always just assumed that fans going silent at home was helpful, but seems they were all more comfortable with the noise/distraction on the road, especially compared to the crushing disappointment of the home crowd after a miss. I wonder if all players feel that way

Really enjoying all their podcasts, love how they all take shots at each other, and its hilarious that Zak likes to randomly ask people during games 'whats your future wife doing right now?' including Spike on senior night who is of course no longer even on the team anymore.
