PSA: If you have access, use the streaming ESPN "surround sound" feed. No announcers, amped up stadium sound, no commercials, ump cam, extended dugouts shots...

It's so much better than the regular production.

Enjoy and Go Blue.

Am I the only one on this board to be surprised to see Paige starting?  Why would we put anyone other than Chriswell or Kauffmann on the mound?  Chriswell threw like 8 pitches in the 9th last night and Kauffmann has had 3 full days of rest, so availability doesn’t seem to be an issue.  Or it this one of those tricky deals where you name a RHP as your starter, then swap him out after an inning for a LHP?

It's called an 'opener,' used commonly in MLB. The idea is you have a reliever going 100% vs. the top of the lineup, then the main pitcher comes in to face the bottom.

Stats show the more times you go through a lineup, the worst the pitcher's stats are. So they probably want Chriswell to face the bottom half (weaker hitters) 3x, and the top half (better hitters) only 2x. Or 4x and 3x if he's dealing and strong, somehow.

EDIT: Ideally, I think they'll want Paige to face like 5 batters, and then Chriswell to come in and go through the line 1.5 or 2.5 more, depending on how strong he is having pitched yesterday.

This is how Vandy gets to game 3. With this pitcher. Dude is a STUD. Hopefully we can get at him, or at least get him to throw a lot of pitches and chase him in the 5th or earlier.
